So do I. But it already seems like we are getting one defender in before one has moved on and there isn’t really a “squad space”

Yes I must have blotted it out. Was going on recency bias. By all accounts (but could be PR spin) if we had these owners this time last year we would have at least tried to move for Broja before his 5 year deal. And it might have worked

And I maintain we would have gone for Guehi but that is based on nothing

Another reporter noted somewhere that we would have gone in for Cucurella but I think that was a fee size thing rather than timing

I'd be surprised if we made it through the summer without a sale, and of the sales that seem somewhat likely, Bednarek is high on the list. Unknown CB X/Salisu/Harmel Jello-Ketchup/Lyanco wouldn't be a bad rotation.

And because it's necessary, yeah: he's another FM22 wonderkid. Along with Livramento, Small, and Bazunu. Who needs a scouting department?

 

Guehi was definitely on the radar, we just didn't have the muscle to move fast enough without knowing what was coming in later in the window in terms of sales.

 

I have read people suggesting that we are prepared to listen to offers for Bednarek and Stephens. Whether we get any for the latter is another matter. Maybe there might be a surprise offer for Lyanco as well. Or a planned loan for one of the two lower down the pecking order

Seems another highly rated youngster, can't say I've heard of him so will just have to have faith in our scouts and see how he goes.

And players from those leagues tend to go for reasonable fees anyway - compared to the nonsense figures for players at PL clubs. For example liverpool wanting 20m for a player that is no way near their side and whose most games have been in the championship

 

Yeah, just saw a Bochum forum where they were delighted he was leaving Germany because the fees for domestic transfers are pretty underwhelming.

They're pretty excited at the prospect of spending 1m-2m each on a couple of players now.
