They have their own music , have you looked at a festival listing lately , I'm like, nope, nope nope ,nope, nope ,fat boy slim ,that should get the youth going
Blame LadyC, she rearranges her work dates so she can absorb Eurovision - as in both semis as well as the main event
****ing hell... "Unfortunately one member of The Damned has got covid and so we weren’t able to play tonight at New Waves Day nor will we be playing on Monday in Portsmouth. We’re hoping that all the remaining shows will go ahead and will be making a further announcement on Tuesday." It's nice of them to make an announcement about Tuesday's gig.......on Tuesday. FFS! I wonder how long before the gig they'll call it off? Not especially happy....
I went to a concert at the Stables in MK wed night ,sat next to a bloke who coughed most of the night and I tested positive for COVID-19 last night , asked him if he was ok and he gave me the " I don't believe the hype speech " well I hope it tears him a new one because I feel as if my head is about to blow , really pissed off about this as I had avoided it so far , lesson learned ,it has not gone away and being triple jabbed does not prevent you getting it
Just transferred our booking in Portsmouth to the reunion gig in Manchester, so no financial loss...in fact the lady at the Premier Inn Booking Centre knocked some money off the difference in cost...it pays to be nice. We're going to Bournemouth no matter what...as are a number of others. We will have a party...band or no band. Yesterday... Today...
You're spoiling us Brian with not one but two of my favourite Damned tracks! In fact Strawberries was the last album I bought by them as they just weren't the same band without the Captain for me anyway. I did see them again live in '96 at the Square in Harlow when he'd rejoined and they were superb but never got around to buying anything. Incidentally is it just me or does anyone else feel Nirvana ripped off the main riff from Life goes on for Come as you are? I thought it when Never Mind came out 30 years ago and talking of years ago just how long will I have to wait for my Strawberries LP to stop smelling of strawberries? 40 years and still going strong!
They are 2 walloping great tracks from 2 fabulous albums. Mrs B's favourite is Strawberries. My copy (purchased on the day it came out) hasn't smelled of Strawberries for at least 20 years...whilst everybody else who owns a copy tells me "Mine smells as sweet today as it's always done." There was a recent re-issue with a scented insert and red coloured vinyl... please log in to view this image Maybe I can buy one with the returned ticket money - the Portsmouth gig is now cancelled and will not be played at a future date.
Sorry to hear that. Whrn I was out in Spain for the Liverpool game and NLD, Mrs B got Covid and had to be locked in our eldest's bedroom for 10 days, missing her trip to Boston. It's all a bit crap really. I walked through Cheam today to deliver some goodies to mother-in-law no. 3, there were a load of anti-vaxxers protesting about Covid discrimination outside The Harrow. ****ing morons!
The gig in Bournemouth is cancelled... Going to Bournemouth regardless...we can't get a refund, so we'll just enjoy the hell out of the day without them. Some pub is going to do a ridiculous amount of business for a Tuesday. A lot of people cursing Captain are now having to deal with the face that Paul's the one with Covid. He's currently stuck in Germany. I hope he's ok, as his health isn't the best since he had the cancer that did for Bryn Merrick.
I agree about The Damned post-Captain. I went to watch them live, but didn't buy many records. I met Mrs B, who LOVED Phantasmagoria and we spent a fair amount of time trying to love each other's version of the same band. 35 years later, we're still trying...I'm the one having more difficulties.
Don't get me wrong I can listen to stuff like Eloise but you can't compare it to the likes of Curtain Call or Melody Lee! In all honesty I don't think they could've beaten Machine Gun Etiquette or the Black Album even had the Captain stayed. That period from 79-81 was for me at least, them at their peak, I'm just so glad I got to see them live a couple of times in 1981.
That line up of The Black Album and Strawberries was the best for me. Rat, Captain, Paul and Roman could play anything.
Thankfully, we always intended to drive, so that's one issue that isn't going to affect us. Oh well, fish and chips on the beach with a few bears and an evening in The Anvil with like minded Damned fans will have to do...
