The Hornets welcome the Albion, the third of the promoted teams. Brighton make the journey from the coast for the first league game between the two companies since 2006.

    Watford

    • The Manager – Sean Dyche

“It is fair to say I am really proud of the lads, we all know what the reality of going on a losing run and it had to end. We came within 20 seconds of stopping it last week and sometimes you bottom out and look at and say 'ok, we will build from here'. Today I thought we did a fine job”

“We have had an awkward week; we have had people injured at the last minute and we have had a mixed team - I was pleased seven of the new signings played today – so to come through and deliver a good performance, nice first half and a tactical second half, I think we were worthy winners today.”

    • The Hornets

    Scott Loach
Lee Hodson, Adrian Mariappa (c), Nyron Nosworthy, Carl Dickinson
Michael Kightly for Mark Yeates - 61 mín., Jonathan Hogg, Prince Buaben - caution 28 mín., Troy Deeney - goal 77 mín. - caution 89 mín. for Craig Forsyth - caution 32 mín. - 75 mín.
    Marvin Sordell, Chris Iwelumo

Substitutes: Rene Gilmartin (gk), Troy Deeney, Ross Jenkins, Michael Kightly, David Mirfin

    Brighton and Hove Albion

    • The Manager – Gustavo Poyet

"Last Monday, even losing (to West Ham), I had the feeling that we were back in terms of the understanding of the football we need to play. I'm not saying it was pretty, I'm not saying there were lots of chances, but for a team like us, playing the way we play, and coming to Birmingham and getting the result we got, I think it's good.”

”It just shows the way we are trying to set up a team – from the back. Then we play. I don't think anybody can say we held back for a 0-0. We finished the game with three strikers and winger Craig Noone on the pitch.”

    • The Albion

    Steve Harper
Romain Vincelot, Gordon Greer, Inigo Calderon, Marcus Painter
Mauricio Taricco - caution 35 mín. for Liam Bridcutt - 30 mín., Kazenga LuaLua for Matthew Sparrow (c) - 82 mín., Ashley Barnes for Ryan Harley - 71 mín
Craig Noone, Billy Paynter, Craig Mackail-Smith

Substitutes: Caspar Ankergren (GK), Ashley Barnes, Alan Navarro, Kazenga LuaLua, MauricioTaricco

    Who will win?

    Current form
The visitors run of eight matches without makes Watford the form team as they are on a winning run of one game, although the league table shows something else. Brighton had a good start to their return to the Championship but recently their tactics have come unstuck or luck has just left them for a while, Watford are just wandering along under achieving with the odd good result.

Akureyri's Prediction: 2-1 Watford'd change of fortune will continue with another hard fought win and Brighton's run without a win continues.

    There is a history

The last match: Watford - Brighton 0:1 3.649 travelling Brighton fans saw their high flying Seagulls team beat a Watford team on a seven match winning run in the FA Cup round 3. Ashley Barnes goal at 16 mín. was enough to sting the Hornets and knock them from the cup. The lower league visitors gave a very good account and made the hosts look like the minor club.

Further into the past: Brighton have the edge in all meetings but in Watford the hosts have the better record, but not by much. 73 goals against 58 and 21 wins against 16 with 17 draws is the record. A 5:0 win for the locals in 1930 will certainly not be repeated but Brighton’s win of 1:3 in 1955 may be, the Albion did do better in the 1940s but again no repeat of that is predicted.

I have a feeling it will be a 2-2 draw. Just because we seem to be scoring but our defence will struggle again. However a win would be massive and I certainly think its possible

Where do the Brighton fans hide. For a team doing well they are very quiet.

Just got this message from a Leyton Orient supporting friend of mine...

Oliver Langford will be refereeing your match with Brighton on Tuesday. He's incompetent! I wrote a letter of complaint to the FA about that ****er! Good luck

Just thought i'd let you know!

Oh dear..have to watch ourselves then.

Will be interesting to see if Doyley and Eustace get back in after good showings by their replacements who showed more attacking threat.

Glad Buckley and Hoskins aren't playing. Both prone to spells of mediocrity, but both people I'd tip to turn it on against a former club.

I agree, let's hope the incompetance is in out favour.... it's refs like him where we need to make the Vic an intimidating atmosphere, so more likely to give the 50/50s to us!

As for the match... After a good start, they seem to be struggling a bit so hpefulyl can get something from this game. Went for a 2-2 score against the Posh, so will go for the same. Goals from Big Chris and the Prince

    Another great thread Ak <ok>

Will Buckley pulled his hamsting in the warm up on Saturday and Will Hoskins is injured, I have no details without some detective work.
