They’ll be totally ****, obviously. Perhaps not quite as venal and ugly as this mob, but give them time…..
Apparently Germany has ignored 17% of the ECHR rulings applied to it, while the U.K. has ignored 9%. Azerbaijan has ignored 95%! If compliance is optional, as this seems to indicate, it doesn’t seem worth the hassle of leaving. I wonder why we didn’t simply ignore the ruling the other night, and send the flight to Rwanda…..
So do I. I knew every other Country does what it likes with their international agreements etc, so why didn't we stick two fingers up? Civil Servants perhaps.
Could have saved the govt the embarrassment of flying a mostly empty plane. This is the start of the process. I believe we'll ignore the next one
Precisely. They could have waited for the full UK court hearing next month, but chose not to. They knew what would happen and are delighted to have the likes of Col jumping up and down about European courts and lefty lawyers. If they had expelled anybody yesterday, there's every chance that they would have had to be returned to the UK next month if the policy is found not to be legal.
The mayor of Calais and the French foreign secretary have both proposed that Westminster set up a refugee processing post in the North of France. Now listen here you smelly frogs, we are in the middle of stoking up a good old English culture war. We don't want solutions, we want strife and division!
That's exactly what I said should happen and I was told I was nuts because the French would never allow it. Of course, now the French have suggested it, we'll never do it. Got to keep picking fights.
It's a classic tactic and quite an obvious one. Gain some of those dissolusioned Tory voters back with the good old 'immigration' card. Its brexit all over again ffs. 'Get immigration done'.!!
Great. Except that all those that don't qualify as asylum seekers in the processing centre, will hop on a crime syndicate dinghy anyway, so it solves nothing, except to encourage more migrants to the north coast of France.
You seem to to think that the whole world wants to come and live in Britain. It really doesn't. Still, you'd be pleased that if this was implemented, actual Afghani refugees (for these are the majority on the boats) would get a chance to be granted asylum in the UK without risking their lives crossing the Channel?
The UK is a huge draw due in part to language and also generous benefits including in-work benefits. France doesn't pay the same rates. A lot of those coming in dingies are from Africa. If they were bona fide, then they wouldn't be ditching their identity docs in such large numbers. I agree there should be a proper route for genuine asylum seekers where they can be properly vetted but this will not solve the economic migrants taking the dinghy route, so we still have an unresolved problem. And there's increasing evidence that the illegal migrants believe human rights laws give them a right to live in the UK, and can become resentful if they're told no. Case in point, the failed asylum seeker who tried to blow up a maternity hospital in that taxi.
Well deporting them to Rwanda doesn't seem to be a deterrent now does it. £120m down payment to Rwanda would be better tackling the crime syndicates that cause you to lose such sleep Goldy. Just think how good you would feel if they didn't have to risk their lives crossing in dinghies.
STARMER BLOCKS YET ANOTHER LOCAL PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATE Sir Keir’s efforts to purify the Labour Party with his preferred stock of hardline centrists has caused yet another local meltdown. Having already seen the Wakefield CLP executive resign en masse for ramming through Simon Lightwood as the by-election candidate, Southside has now turned its attention westwards. Over in Stroud, a two-person shortlist – imposed by a national panel – has outraged members after it mysteriously excluded a local councillor, Doina Cornell, who had the backing of seven trade unions and had led the District Council for four years. No public evidence given – just a claim she didn’t meet the “high bar” expected of candidates. She does happen to be a member of Unite though… 130 local members were so upset they’ve signed a scathing letter to Starmer and Labour General Secretary David Evans, claiming the snub is “bad for local party democracy” and “will fatally damage our chances of regaining Stroud for Labour”. Among the signees were members of all branches, dozens of councillors from nearby wards, and members of the CLP executive committee. It was even signed by one of candidates who actually made the shortlist… Any TrotsAppers hoping CLP protests will change much will be disappointed. David Evans responded by saying “I understand this decision will be incredibly disappointing for Cllr Cornell and her supporters. However, we would urge her to carefully consider the concerns raised by the panel and look to address them ahead of the next round of parliamentary selections.” A Labour source added they expect Starmer to block out the noise and plough ahead with the same strategy elsewhere…
The process hasn't begun yet, Bob! It has a long way to go, because something has to be done and there is no other solution. Voters simply will not put up with economic migrants coming in, in ever increasing numbers and the government of the day just shrugging its shoulders.
