Apparently Jol is considering offerring Grygera a 'proper' contract; based on the premise that since he's on a free and playing well someone may pinch him. But he is also considering a January bid for 22 year old Kyle Naughton of Chelsea. I know it's all based on press reports but generally leaves me confused.

The club policy - which Jol seems, till now, to be following - is to get the squad age below 30 within a year. Grygera (and his wages) doesn't quite fit.

Right back was a priority at the beginning of the season of course - and Jol is clearly ignoring my referral at the time of another Chelsea young right back, Ben Lawrence (ungrateful I call that!). But is it the priority now? Or has he other offloads in mind?

I think you mean Naughton of Spurs ;) is he the Kyle who's getting game time for them, or is he the one on loan to Villa? Either way, I can't see him coming to us if he's getting games at Spurs, and if he's at Villa then they'll have first refusal.

I think he signed Grygera as a stop-gap, but from what I understand he's done well for us and can play at CB too, so would be handy to have in the squad. There's no reason why Jol wouldn't get a youngster in as well. Who though, is another question.

Not quite correct, he's at Norwich on loan (Walker is at Villa - strange as I was sure one was doing alright for Spurs), so perhaps we are in with a chance. Not a banker by any means though.

Seeing as Kyle Walker started for Spurs today, I think we can safely say he is not on loan at Villa. :p

He was on loan at Villa last year though. And Naughton is at Norwich, as pointed out by Bidley.

Keeping Grygera is a good option, together with bringing a young player... As the older generation will start retiring the younger ones will come in. If we need to reduce age and compete on more than 1 front we need more players!

I know Kelly isn't spectacular, but in a lot of games he has put in a good shift, when played. I don't understand why he never keeps his place.

We also have Simon Davies who can played well at right-back, may not be
    up to Premier class though.

I prefer Baird at Center half or midfield, but not as right-back.

Grygera has shown he is a good fullback, think he can also play Center-half, but he does do rash tackles and get booked too often for me.

I was thinking the exact same. In the ten or so games that i've seen with Kelly at right-back he's been impressive. He may lack the delivery when crossing but he has been reliable and has shown that he deserves a decent run in the first 11. In the long run he may not be the long term answer but at the moment I think he's the best option.

On the Grygera issue, I doubt he's on a big wage and it seems smart to tie him down and avoid other clubs coming in and taking him on a free. Surely offering a free player on an extended contract is less of a risk than spending a few million on a player, especially considering Grygeras versatility.

Yes, I think Grygera has generally done well (apart from too many yellows, but that goes for the whole team this season). Also agree with Kelly comments, steady, unspectacular yes - and that's probs what we need.
