Thank god Kyle got those first innings runs, because otherwise the smart money would be on 190-9 in one ball's time.
TBH I'm delighted to come out of that round with the same amount of points as Surrey. Surrey looked like winning their match from day 1. Hants had to really fight for the win.
Thank goodness for Abbott and Fuller's partnership in the first innings, otherwise there's no way we could have won that game I think. Has anyone watched the debated slip catch of Abbott back on the replays? It's one of those that possibly carried live but as it's so hard to tell then the benefit of the doubt was always going to go to the batsman (luckily for us). There was also the ball when Wheal found the edge late on, but watching at the ground that one did definitely look like it had bounced just before Brown's gloves.
Mind you these things even out. I think Gubbins was given a very dubious LBW earlier today. Impact looked outside the line.
Abbott has been a little below par I'd say this season, certainly with the bat and even with the ball, so hopefully this game has been a turning point for him. Even though we won, I think it would still be worth considering bringing Weatherley back in now to replace either Organ or Holland. My vote would be to replace Organ as his returns have slipped a little, he's not bowling that much and Holland is bowling well at present, just needs a good innings to get himself back on track.
Gubbins looked so far outside the line, that even with a fourth stump I think he'd still been outside. Vince couldn't believe it either (nor with his caught behind).
Fair play to Wheal in that game. Massive shoes to fill, not played a Championship match this season, and doesn't have the greatest red ball record going. But he was solid. Bowling depth is something we suffer from compared to a lot of counties. So it was good to see Wheal perform.
Brilliant win Hants. Lost toss & Yorks hit 428 first innings but what a come back. Great entertainment today.
