    Unbelievable innit.

Must think we have a magic wand we can wave the second a new manager signs a contract so all the players he would like just appear <doh>

And as for people worrying about all these players the papers say we are missing out on that's nothing yet, last season i counted 42 players that either rejected us or we were "beaten to the punch for" by other teams <laugh>

It's not a disaster! That's not what we are discussing here.

We are simply discussing the fact that for years, other teams seem to be able to get their business done rapidly in private. But United, we do our deals from the back of gossip mills which then ends up becoming overly protracted.

We will of course sign players, but we should be doing better job wrapping deals up before it becomes gossip fest. That's exactly what other teams appear to do so consistently.

No your comprehension was just poor.

Who said all the players would just appear? No one.

"RB Leipzig have slapped a £100m (€115m) price tag on star striker Christopher Nkunku in an attempt to put off bids from Manchester United and other clubs this summer, according to The Independent. "

    This is a classic example!

We have been talking about this player as a likely target FOR MONTHS. But like it or not, these gossip mills effectively set the bar for what becomes of reality. If they have indeed set the target of £100m for the player, then all of a sudden £70m will seem like a bargain. But if we had executed a deal long before it becomes protracted, this is a player that we should be paying no more than £50m for, and that at a higher end.

That is precisely what I am trying to describe as the effect of the analysis by paralysis that happens at United.

Yeah will admit that was just embellishment <laugh>

I guess i don't expect anything to happen for a while yet since ETH has only actually spent a week at the club and i'm not sure any of his new staff have actually been yet.
I take very little notice of what is played out in the news, that's just a way agents boost interest in their clients.

The math is simply. If the agents are able to run amuck with anyone that we are remotely linked to, they gain an upper hand in doing so. It doesn't matter if they do it for 2 players, or 50 others, it ultimately means that the longer protracted we are at closing deals, the more expensive it gets or more likely it won't happen as others move in.

The point is that "Time" moves the advantage to the sellers hands in football transfers with players in contracts.

    My mum! lol

    And who does the "linking"?

We are "linked" to just about every player that want's a move, it doesn't mean we have any interest in them.

FFS - the window has just opened, we can't just walk into Ajax or any other club and hoover up their best players. As and when we make an approach these clubs have to set in motion their own plan A, B and C to look at replacements, it all takes time and not until the selling club has a replacement organised will they even contemplate a sale, at least in public. Patience is the key.

Why you in such a rush?
Most players are on international duty or holiday, what do you think will change if they pose in a United shirt in the next month or so?
If they are not in for pre-season that may be a problem.

Come on! That was a tongue in the check statement.
But yes, I hope we have most of the players in before preseason. The last thing that we need now is last week of transfer desperate signings. Wrap them up before preseason to learn shoot their roles in the team, get blending and we can have a structured start to the season.

Side note… This crazy internationals are so useless in my opinion, especially given there is World Cup break coming in November as well. Players are going to be fked this season, for sure!

Frankie De Jong looks to be the closest signing. Player wants to come. Barca want to sell, we want to buy. Only sticking point is price. About €20m difference so negotiations ongoing but I can't see that being a deal breaker.

We certainly need someone like him with solid football IQ in that midfield area. A team can truly challenge and even win the big prize without a perfect number 9. But a perfect number 9 and flawed midfield will ultimately fall short. This is why we need to start the rebuild from the middle of the park and the flanks at the back.

Be a very good first signing.

I wouldn't say no to Eriksen either, might give Bruno a kick up the arse.

Question; if Nkunku is genuinely available for €100 million, is it worth us going for him to the detriment of signing one centre half and winger?

    Personally, I would say yes.

De Jong, Eriksen on a free, Nkunku and Timber would be a great window.

Fantasy stuff, but night as well chat about it!
