Oh absolutely - of that there is no doubt.
They probably would not have stuck around with us for long but we would have benefitted on the pitch whilst they were here and financially when they moved on.
That whole episode was a slap in the face for Cotts and hugely damaged the reputation of Bristol City Football Club.

It baffles me why anyone would even think they could interfere with the transfers that had been agreed, obviously the other club wouldn’t agree and would only prevent the purchase going ahead. Bizarre.

Don’t be too quick to write this off boys…
I can’t see which Prem club offered £9m but maybe it’s worth considering if there’s a couple of their first-team players coming the other way as part of the deal?
If it’s Spurs perhaps the deal includes Son and Kane coming to BS3?

£9m is well below our valuation, and the article doesn’t confirm which club it was from, or even which division they’re in, so could be from a relegated club, or a present championship club that has P/P.

Where would a 20 million sale leave us in the FFP stakes? That would be a large chunk of cash that could not be sniffed at for a financially challenged club like ours and I doubt that it would be reinvested in new players. I think we will sell Semenyo because that's just what we do with our star players. Realistically I don't think we need to spend big money to produce a better squad but rather we need committed players that will always put in a full shift without complaining about their lot in life. That is easy to say but more difficult to do and we have to rely on NP to come up with the goods.

Semenyo is the most difficult player to replace imo, along with Weiman, I hope we can persuade him to stay for at least one more season.

What a difference between Kane Wilson and Kasey Palmer, Wilson came home urgently and early from his holiday because he wanted to sign his contract with Bristol City and get on with his life, Coventry want to get on with the medical and sign up Palmer but he has told them he will complete his holiday in the Maldives when he will be available, what a difference in attitude and action, it demonstrates the old ways and the new expectancy Nige is demanding in readiness for the new season.

I'm not questioning Palmers ability and skill but it does demonstrate the difference in commitment and attiudes that some have had in our squad, things are developing at the gate.

    Antoine Semenyo transfer latest
Bristol Live understands no bid for Antoine Semenyo has been forthcoming despite reports Bristol City had rejected £9m from an unnamed club for his signature.

The striker is likely to be on the shortlist of a host of clubs this summer with City valuing their key man at around £20m. Nottingham Forest had a January deadline day bid rejected and remain in the market for a new striker this summer. Chelsea have also shown an interest.

Semenyo has a contract for another 12-months at City with the option of an extra year meaning the club can play hardball with time on their side. However, if they fail to convince him to sign a new deal, his value could depreciate this time next summer.

Bristol City make approach to sign Dutch defender Kenneth Paal on a free from PEC Zwolle - with Nigel Pearson's Championship side aiming to fight off interest in the left back from Barnsley

As it's on a free, and provided the wages are not too high, this makes sense to add some further depth to our defence with some decent experience. Perhaps Pring may go back on loan, but hopefully to a higher level than before, to a top side in L1.
