Taken absolutely ****ing ages to give preferential bidder status to a guy who, at the last minute, can't show up with the cash.
On this, I'm with Mike Ashley.

Perhaps if they'd done a bit more dd they'd have sussed Kirchner out. I'm probably being a bit naive but I really don't understand why a potential purchasers source of funds can't be established and ring-fenced before the 11th hour.

Is this Chris Kirchner person, the new Michael Knighton?
Or, conspiracy theory, an Ashley insider?

EFL have written to the administrators asking how they intend to bring the club out of admin as the fixtures are out in two weeks. One consortium has apparently lost investors and Ashley won’t touch it as he refuses to pay the administrators the £2+m they’re owed. If Rosie gets the Blackpool gig …..

Yeah, heavily linked. Tough job. I can see Blackpool struggling like hell next year. One of my three for the drop.

Quantuma have now written to the Appleby and Ashley groups to ask whether they remain interested in buying Derby (both are). Kirchner also determined to complete his deal.

Kirchner loses a lot of money if his deal collapses, he's been paying the players wages.

Was that Derby players or some team he’s involved with in the US?

Derby's players, but have seen another article about emoyees in The States getting paid late also.
Radio Derby stated that someone else had paid Derby's May wages, plus Rooney had deferred part of his wages.
The Adminstrators haven't covered themselves in glory.

    EFL Statement - Derby County

The EFL has today informed the Administrators at Derby County that following the failure of Mr Chris Kirchner to conclude a sale of the Club, it is changing the terms of the suspended Notice of Withdrawal issued when the Club entered into administration in September 2021.

The League is increasingly concerned that the ongoing delays in the sale process now present a real risk to the integrity of next season’s competition, with the 2022/23 fixture list due to be released in less than two weeks, and need to act now in the best interests of the EFL.

The suspension of the Notice of Withdrawal of the Club’s share in the EFL is subject to conditions that, in accordance with the League’s insolvency policy, the EFL Board determine and given the lack of progress by the Administrators to finalise a transaction, it now considers it appropriate to revise the conditions of suspension.

As a result, the EFL has informed the Administrators that there will be a revision to the conditions attached to the suspension and the EFL is now to be made a party to all correspondence and discussions between the Administrators, and any and all potential bidders, with an acknowledgment that the League will be able to negotiate directly in relation to matters concerning the transfer of the share in the EFL.

Trevor Birch said: “Following this latest setback for the Club and its fans, it is vitally important that a sale of the Club is concluded at the earliest opportunity and we want to ensure that this objective is achieved.

“Up until now we have provided the Administrators with the time and opportunity to manage the sale process but with the long stop date on the asset purchase agreement and the membership agreement now passed, further urgent proactive action is required in order to do whatever is possible to secure the Club's future as a continuing member of the EFL.”

So there’s quite a good chance they won’t start the season, they’d be better off just doing a Dover and taking a points hit until they can sell the club. They’d easily be relegated, but at least they’d have a club still.

There is some logic to that. Is it Derbys decision to take points deduction??
Surely that’s upto to the EFL?

Derby youth side in L1 might just survive. Not sure if woozer will still be there, doubt it, and who will pay wages but Derby have a good fan base who will still turn out in numbers. Starting with 11 kids might just galvanise them...

No, they'll be punished for not being able to fulfil fixtures if they start the season and cannot field a side with professional ability (so they couldn't just stick their U17s out), if they can sell a few players and then bring in some free transfers or loans, then that might assuage the EFL and allow them to continue with the deduction. I think it's three points a game, that's what it was for Dover but obviously they weren't governed by the EFL.

I think they'd get battered, the ones that are Championship quality will go (we should be looking at a couple) and the other teams have squads that have been playing together for a while, I couldn't see anything other than relegation for them if they just played with kids.

EDIT: not in a Jimmy Saville way, I meant in a footballing way. <laugh>

Fair enough. It's a win win if they did have to play kids and came 20th. If they get another -21 for whatever reason, they'd be requiring snookers, early doors. In that scenario they'd be down.

As it stands if Derby make it through the next couple of weeks and start the season, I'd definitely want them first game of the season, what a mess!
