Good morning... met with a couple of neighbours to organise our 20 year french home anniversary which we will have in July..... the whole hamlet will have a feast in tables set out in the farmyard...and everyone will contribute.....something that would not quite happen in England these days.. Meanwhile after a dry day painting the shutters it is a grey rainy day today........have a good one
Morning all. Bright and a nice temperature, not too hot or cold. Message just received from daughter to say they are back in England and depressed with the selection of food on offer at the services for their breakfast. Off to the vampire now for Mme's blood test. This is before her visit to the hospital next week to see the anesthetist and then her hip operation next month. My knee has suddenly become less painful. Have a good day everyone.
Morning all. A lovely Summers morning. Blue sky, no wind, and a comfortable temperature. Daughter back in England tried to contact the fracture clinic that operates in her area as she hopefully will be able to get the plaster off her wrist in about a week. Six attempts later her telephone call had still not been answered, so she has tried to e-mail them. We will try to respond within 48 hours, but it may take longer was the automated response. I hope that she doesn't have to wait too long before she gets an appointment. Meanwhile I managed to pick plenty of loganberries yesterday despite not having the nets up, and the beans all seem to be liking the weather. Have a good day everyone.
Good evening ....we hosted a meal for some neighbours today... which started at 12.00 and finished at 6.30... and this was.... LUNCH..... Courses interspersed with drinks and much conversation of which I got about a third and Mme as little less... A very enjoyable afternoon in a way which we would never get in Urban UK....... much discussion about the cost of living... which in France is all neatly explained on Ukraine....... plus the usual incredulity over Brexit ....... and Boris........... free ranging and interesting discussion about food...one of our neighbours is a retired chef.... which ended up with an explanation on how to cook the leaves we got as part of our veggie box from the farmers market which turned out to beet leaves...and we were shown how to prepare and cook them...with garlic lemon juice and butter..... the afternoon ended , discussions about how to cook andouilletes and tete de veau, rather ominously with an invite to try frogs legs chez our neighbours...soon ...... I rather hope they forget all about it ( a lot of alcohol had been drunk)
Good to hear all are striving to survive. Fez, How is the Mrs? I am ok here in Mexico, nearly up and about 100% now, but, had to get my wisdom teeth out a couple or so weeks ago. Only just recovering from that, was a bastard. Work and shirk as usual. We need the rains to come here, mid 30s most days and dry as a nun. Oaxaca got ruined by a hurricane, but the north is in mega drought. Go figure. Have a good weekend all. ¡¡Saludos a todos!!
Morning all. The heat has returned with temperatures above 30 ° C. I was reminded by a BBC news item that there is a sound I never hear in rural France. That is the chimes of the ice cream van. Even in the depths of Northants the ice cream van would make its way to us most days during the summer. Now the whole business is under threat because of diesel prices and people looking to cut back on unnecessary expenditure. I cannot say I am sorry to avoid some of the tunes picked on, birdsong is much kinder on the ear. Have a good day everyone.
The joke in our family is..tell the kids there is no ice cream left when the van is playing music..... hah
And sometime after midnight I test positive too. Four days after Mrs Fez which, given the time, probably means she picked it up in a service station on the way back from Scotland and we spent three hours in the car together earlier in the day that she tested positive. It was inevitable that I would catch it. Mrs Fez is not too bad today: absolutely shattered but the flu like symptoms have abated somewhat. I'm not too bad at the moment.
Hopefully recovery is quick for you both - and hopefully your wife didn't catch it in Moffat. My wife and I have decided to head off down there next month during the school holidays.
Unlikely Moffat. We were first in. Not many followed us. The second services in Lancashire somewhere were a bit grim, is my guess. Then there was the M6 Toll, then an all but empty Newport Pagnell.
My wife has just tested positive - second time for her. Time to banish her to the attic again I guess.
Oh no. Speedy recovery Mrs BB. This is ridiculous.Always maintained that this government hasn't got a clue about this, their rules a forcing a perpetuity. I've got Rammstein gig in two weeks and Elton at the Vic following on. I'm furious about having been forced into this position with inadequate provisions to keep folks safe.
I hope she’s well, BB. Is it worse than last time? The figures are supposed to be resurgent, I heard. Wishing her the best.
Nothing so grand for us - we have tickets for a Skerryvore concert this coming Friday night, but guess we won't be going now. Worse - the last time she really just felt 'under the weather' but this time she has flu-like symptoms and feels totally drained. Slept most of yesterday in an armchair, woke up & tested herself then went to bed.
Morning all. Some clouds today which are keeping the temperature a little lower, but still very warm. Sorry to read about the covid outbreak again and hope that all will soon feel a little better. The two variants BA4 & 5 seem to be rife, but the government seems to be ignoring them. Large news report on the Elton concert that he gave in Paris last night. Two and a half hours and he showed no signs of being handicapped by his hip operation. On a less musical note, first round voting is underway again today. I cannot say that I have seen any movement from the neighbours heading to the polling station. Have a good day everyone.
