He did turn us from contenders for dropping to division 4, to league winners with our highest ever points haul, whilst also being Wembley winners in the same season. He lost out because he had the audacity to stand up to our owner, it’s taken us to now to get a manager who’ll also stand up for what he believes in, only time will tell if this time it’s successful.

 

I enjoyed that promotion season under Cotts as much as anyone and I'll always be grateful for that, but he hasn't done much else.
By contrast for example, Gary Johnson also got us out of that league 1 too - then into the Playoff final the following season. He seemed to be able to work with SL ok. He then went on to get Yeovil promoted into the Championship - unbelievable achievement.
I love Steve, but personally rate Gary Johnson much more highly.

Cotterills downfall for me was his stubborness in sticking to the same formation that worked in L1, but not in the Championahip. He also made us a laughing stock in the transfer market over Gayle and Gray, so had to go.

 

Don’t blame the board, we weren’t allowed to with LJ. It was all on the manager. No double standards, please!

 

He fell out with SL, who wanted a consolidation season, due to having his fingers bitten before when GJ went for it , whereas SC wanted to use our momentum to push on , granted he then got stubborn, but it was down to a difference of opinion with SL. I hope these players coming in from lower teams are able to be up and running for a higher and more fierce competition. Perhaps they need an in your face manager like Pearson to step up several levels and make us more competitive, but we will have to wait until the season kicks off for real.

 

So let’s get this right, our 2 right sided defenders/ wing backs are both ex league 2 players, and that’s good because?

It’s a big leap though to the championship, one is fine, but both our right sided defenders, that’s a bit of a risk surely?

 

Technically it could be argued that Wilson is L1 not L2 after FGRs promotion.

I'm not buying that reasoning as it's illogical. Why would he deny SC funds at the 11th hour, then, to coin an RP phrase "hand over the keys to the sweetshop to LJ". Clearly, SL didn't trust SC on some level and the issues there ran deeper than we probably know. Plus, I must have missed the bit where he let GJ "go for it", what, by letting him sign Adebola for a promotion push.....

 

Let’s just say four excellent signings.
