Once again, Vettel made comments to the press which express his desire to race for Ferrari in the future: "I'm happy at Red Bull but I dream of Ferrari. I would pay a year's holiday to Alonso to have the red car. I would like a podium at Monza with Ferrari. And one day I hope to have a Ferrari in my garage." Despite Newey's presence at Red Bull, Vettel's comments suggest that Red Bull can not guarantee him a competitive car each year (otherwise he would have no problems staying at RBR in the long term future). Vettel is highly regarded by other teams - Whitmarsh has already said that he will try and get Vettel once his Red Bull contract expires. Luca Di Montezemolo has made similar comments as well, but the problem with Ferrari is that they already have a top driver and inspirational leader in Fernando Alonso. Will Vettel ever be a Ferrari man?
I hope he does go to Ferrari. He could replace Massa, leaving a seat free for Kubica at Red Bull, and Massa slip into Kubica's old seat. I think Vettel scrapping with Alonso would be a lot more interesting that the 'scraps' he has with Webber
That quote has been taken out of context. He was asked what he would do if Red Bull didn't give him a drive next season. There could also be the possibility that Vettel is after a pay rise, he's not being paid a lot considering he's world champion, Webber has a higher salary at the moment. I think he'll stay at RBR for the next few seasons, they've been the best team for the last 18 months and look like they have the best package for the next 12. He'd be mad to leave.
So if Whitmarsh tries to get Vettel when his contract finishes(Which I presume is in 2012 correct me if I am wrong) Then who will depart Mclaren as Lewis has only got a seat until 2012 and Jenson has got one until 2013?
I think his contract expires at the end of 2012, but I'm not entirely sure - although to be honest it doesn't really matter. McLaren will not replace Lewis Hamilton. He may have **** tyre management, and cost the team valuable points at times, but they know he is too good to give away.
I dont think he is **** at tyre management there are just other drivers who are better. If he was so **** he wouldn`t be able to get to the end of races like he did in 2010 when the normal 2nd stint was long on the primes(40-50 laps) And who doesn`t cost the team points from time to time?
Every driver does, but Lewis does it in really stupid ways (Monza 2009, Monza 2010). But that doesn't really matter, because McLaren would not be stupid enough to replace him.
Monza 2010 wasnt stupid he was going for a gap like every racing driver does.Just like Senna said when he went for a gap in Japan 1990. As for Monza 2009 he is a racer he could try and hold position and not overtake anyone but thats not him and he likes to attack. As for Stupid mistakes didn`t alonso make one in Belgium last year in the wet? it was raining and he was on the inters and he went on kerb and crashed out.how stupid is that when you know in the wet not to go onto the white lines and kerbs?
Just like to point out that Massa (Fuji 2008), Webber (Australia 2010, Malaysia 2003-I think), Vettel (Belgium and Turkey 2010) and Alonso (Belgium 2010) have lost points to stupid mistakes as well EDIT: Also 2009, Hamilton had nothing to lose that season, so he was right to go flat out for the last few laps
Lewis WDC + F1Mclaren927, Can't really argue against that - although I still think Hamilton was wrong to go flat out in Monza 2009 - it was the last lap and he had no chance of catching the driver ahead.
Can I have his salary? I would love to see Vettel and Alonso in the same equipment. Vettel will most likely out qualify him most of the time, but Alonso's race craft will help him to win alot more. Just like Prost vs Senna.
Alonso and Vettel in the same equipment will be nothing like Prost vs Senna. Vettel is very good at qualifying, but he is not the best. Hamilton/Alonso is probably the best qualifier. Vettel does so well in qualifying because he usually has the fastest car. Situations like Germany and Singapore last year proved that Vettel isn't that incredible when it comes to qualifying.
Could be argued either way. I think Vettel is one of the strongest (if not the strongest) qualifier. Germany and Singapore were when Alonso got perfect laps and Vettel made one error, which kind of proves your point . Still like to see it though
