In about 10 years time drag Queens and Trannies will be looked at like Minstrel shows are now . Men wearing make up and a costume to look like a ridiculous version of a woman will be deemed offensive to women . The same as a man wearing black face and singing Oh mammy would today .
There are seedy underground Minstrel bars where like minded gents go to unwind and be themselves. By dressing up as Negroes and singing show tunes . Perhaps they should get a flag too ?
Now people that enjoy dressing in black face are seen as mentally ill perverts. One day this marginalised community will be able to express their true selves without fear of prudes and bigots hurling abuse at them or worse . They should be free to walk the streets and we should use their preferred pronouns Brother/my ****** . Some people are born black in the wrong body it's not a choice , they are subjected to extreme prejudice . Especially by so called "real black people ".
Hopefully one day they will have their own Minstrel pride month and we can encourage our children to get involved.
Maybe Justin coming out as a Blackface enthusiast will give the movement some much needed prestige and go some way to losing it's social stigma Bill & Hilary are great advocate too
We had proper integration back in the day, where black and white didn't just mix as a community, they did it at an individual level. Why didn't they ever show the white minstrels though?
It was the norm back then , men can play women's roles like Widow Twanky women played male roles like buttons and I'm guessing that picture is from Alladin ?
