Where does he stand at the minute? Can he be first choice in a 3 next season or will he be on the bench and have to wait for an injury to get his chance. Is he good enough to be at the club in 5 years time? I think he's got lots of potential myself, some of his skills and finishing have shown it, he is only 21. I wouldn't be unhappy with him being the attacking most of the 3 next season, Bruno holding and big Joe doing the inbetween job. Shelvey and Longstaff back up. I would like another CM aswell though.
As better players come into the squad, I fear he could be the one to lose out, but, I understand where you're coming from.
I think if he was about 27 or 28, he isn't going to get better than now, but 21 is still loads of room to get better. I don't think he will become a world class player, but i think he could a be very good player.
Anyway, he will be good enough to be a squad player at worst in about 5 years time, we need players like that when we are in Europe.
If he's not good enough to be a squad player 5 years down the line, I think it'll be a career wasted. We're that used to only playing league games, you tend to forget how many additional games those clubs in Europe can have as well as the domestic cups.
That's what i meant by worst, i think he will be better than a squad player but maybe not a star player, inbetween somewhere. Hey, i hope he turns into the best midfielder in the world but time will tell.
He’s good enough now to be playing in a midfield 3 and he brings something different to the game. Hes 21 with bags of potential and when playing with technically better players he will improve. In a **** team in the prior season he carried us through under Bruce and scored in 800 games in a row. He deserves his chance. Shelvey is the one that has to go. Imagine the options with Bruno Paquetta Joe and Willock: Even Longstaff looked good next to Bruno because Bruno creates so much space and longstaffs main ability is pass and move.
