Greetings everyone. So... visiting my birthplace for the first time in a long while. Any pub recommendations? I guess Newcastle/Gosforth/Jesmond/Ouseburn will be my nearby(ish) areas. I'm not a youngster if that makes any difference. And it's a no to the Gate or Bigg market... Thanks for the pointers (if any).
The Earl Of Pitt Street near the ground. A gastronomic pub with a decent ale selection. Nice bogs too.
Shark bar next to SJP - sports bar that does food and has the best scenery for a boozer in Newcastle - It also has views of SJP
Well, having goggled it, my fears were confirmed - looks unfortunately like a lot of the bars in the US. Was thinking more along the lines of a classic (but updated) English pub. Quiet(ish) with good food and beer.
Yeah, I'm probably not the best person on here to recommend that type of establishment. I do get the impression you're not quite familiar with Newcastle Upon Tyne however if that's what you're looking for
The Three Bulls Heeds on Percy st,decent grub, decent beer, and good craik,The Percy for good beer and great music it's a Star Wars bar so spot on
Crown Posada, Bridge Hotel, Old George. They are at least three classics, i'm not sure CP does food though apart from sandwich n crisps.
Please do explain to me classic but updated pub that is quiet and does good food. One or 2 of those - aye no problem, all of them? struggling myself.
Updated can just mean decent food and the like. The pubs when I was a lad had the character but not a lot else. TBH, modern is perfectly fine as long as it has something about it. Not the Shark bars of this world…
