Having new additional owners with plenty of cash is obviously a brilliant thing but the hook is always not what you spend but how you spend it. The chuckle brothers had an Eric Morcambe approach to transfers, they spent all the right money but not necessarily on the right players (in league 1 season 1 that is). I'm very optimistic going by Speakman's record combined with Neil's know how. Yes one major dud signing in Defoe but him apart we signed very very well and particularly in January. Without Baath, Roberts and Clarke we don't get promoted.
Still dont get why he didnt hang around, train until end of season just in case we needed him, get he might have felt finished....but we may not have got over the line should stewart got injured....we were lucky we didnt need him
Feeling very positive about next season already tbf. Almost like the worst is thankfully behind us, we’ve bottomed out, picked up and are now only going to improve from here for at least the next couple of seasons and hopefully beyond.
Good bit in the Northern Echo. Nothing new but highlights how important the new investment is: Even if Louis-Dreyfus and Sartori were to combine to agree an investment to cover new signings and increased wage payments in the next couple of months, they would be reliant on Donald and Methven matching that funding at a ratio commensurate to their shareholding, or they would have to fund the shortfall themselves, even though they would effectively be using their own money to plug a gap created by other investors. Understandably, given Donald and Methven’s past dealings, there is considerable uncertainty about both their willingness or ability to invest this summer. New investors would have the potential to change things at a stroke, introducing a new revenue stream Sunderland will need if they are to reestablish themselves as a Championship side capable of targeting promotion back to the top-flight. The Black Cats stand to see their revenue increase by around £10m as a result of winning promotion, but their wage bill last season was around £10m lower than the average wage bill in the Championship. Without external investment, Sunderland would have to spend every penny of their additional income on wages, never mind transfer fees, just to get a level where they were matching the average for the second tier. https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/s...t-secure-new-investment-donald-methven-leave/
or an immediate cash injection into the club with additional season tickets and the bumper attendance with 1st home game, if you are really cynical.
No mate, the original. My all time favourite, brewed just up the road from me so is always served from the keg round here.
Agree with you here, don't know why he didn't stay. Even his experience with the other strikers already here could have helped the team out. I think he expected to hit the ground running as its only league 1, then when realised he was no where near fitness didn't have it in him to get back!
They will also see the investment opportunities with the redevelopment plans for the city and region and know they can make money off that as well. It's exciting times for the region as well as the club, this feels so different to previous investment rumours, the feel good factor is through the roof, the region has major plans for redevelopment and we as a club are in one hell of a position. I honestly believe this could be bigger than we all hope for
Just had a read of RTG and loads hounding out a poster called kildare claiming he’s methven any idea if he is on the boards?
You're right about the redevelopment opportunities in Sunderland, and it's not just the Sheepfolds and Vaux. There's a huge amount of land from the Northern Spire bridge along the riverside that's open and ripe for development, from the bridge including low Pallion to the Doxford yard, Deptford after the QA bridge up to Farringdon Row, the North Bank from the QA bridge towards the stadium, Bonners Field, High Street East towards the port, Sunniside and the Civic Centre site. Add in the port itself plus the planned IAMP next to Nissan and you can see where a huge amount of money can be made by investing in the redevelopment. When you consider that Legal and General are investing £110 million in building an office behind City Hall as just one part of it, it shows that people are confident that it can pay off for them by being involved.
Prediction time, wheatsheaf is going to have a massive sore head this morning. He is probably hovering over the big white telephone, uttering, “never again”.
I don’t think it’s him but it’s someone linked in some way. The aggro he gets borders on the obsessive though. I just ignore him on the most part or if I really disagree I’ll say so but without the insults and jibes he gets from the rest of the board.
He's irritating and a little strange for sure. But there's some interesting stuff partially hidden amongst the spelling mistakes and smokescreen. I'd say he's certainly more informed and knowledgeable than 80% of those who rise to his bait. And the obsession with Methven
