The Sunday Sun is reporting today that Mike Ashley will spend some money in January, and that Newcastle expect to bring in three players during the next transfer window.

There was some similar news a few days ago, and the news continues to say that Modibo Maiga will be arriving on Tyneside early in January, and we’ve suggested the deal could already have been struck.

Indeed the local newspaper is reporting the deal has been agreed to at a fee of £6M, which is on the low end of estimates (that’s a surprise), and that terms have also been agreed with the 24 times capped Mali International.

Everything seems agreed and Newcastle are hoping no big club comes in over the next couple of months for the talented striker, who was in big demand early last summer.

Maiga is quick, tall and left footed, which fit Newcastle’s requirement for the striker they want to bring in, and the wages Newcastle will be paying Modibo triple his current wages at Sochaux, and the contract is said to last through the summer of 2016.

Alan Pardew will travel to watch Sochaux a few times in the coming weeks to watch him play, and understand how best to integrate the player into the current Newcastle side.

We know that Alan Pardew wants to bring in an experienced center-back to shore up central defense, since Newcastle only have Fab Coloccini, Steven Taylor and Mike Williamson.

Newcastle went after Lian Ridgewell on the last day of the transfer window in the summer, and he may still be a target, but we do expect a center-half to arrive in January.

We thought Erik Pieters could also possibly arrive in January, but the local report today suggests that Newcastle are after another central midfielder, which is a bit of a surprise.

Newcastle are said to have a list of six players whose contracts run out next summer, and Newcastle may move for one of them in January, if a suitable deal with their club can be arranged.

please let one of them be Welliton
thank god there isn't a site showing players contracts otherwise i'd have spent ages looking for the players out of contract

Interesting about the new central midfielder. Perhaps Pardew is not ready to be too reliant on Abeid after all?

On Maiga; some people here have being going on about him not being right for us, but I'm more than happy to put that decision in Carr & Pardew's hands, if they think he will fit in and score goals then I can't wait to see what he can do. If it's 6m too it's not the world's biggest waste of money if he doesn't come good either.

Hope we get Ridgewell too, would make good cover with Williamson; plus he sort of looks like Williamson so that would make a creepy defense in a cup game.

Is he really the best we can get though? Are there not atleast 500 other defenders in the world better than him?

We aren't looking for a starter though, we only need cover, and Ridgewell plays both LB and CB. He's not brilliant, but he's better than Perch.

Yeh that's what I'm thinking, but I'm sure Pardew already said that Abeid would be his Tiote cover for the ACoN.

Ideally we need cover for CB, a LB, a CDM, a RW and a striker.

look him up he's a great player just what we need imo on a sidenote there's a article with a interview with cabaye rather than make my third thread of the day i'll post it here

The France international claims he could have made the switch to Villa Park if fellow Frenchman Gerard Houllier had remained in charge, but with the former Liverpool boss stepping down over the summer, the move fell through.

Cabaye, who has been instrumental in Newcastle's unbeaten start in the Premier League, also played down talk linking him with Arsenal and insists he is happy with his choice to join the Magpies.

"My name was being linked with clubs left, right and centre for two years, but there were no firm contacts," Cabaye is quoted as saying in The People.

"I had the possibility of going to Aston Villa. But it depended upon whether Gerard Houllier was going to continue in charge and as he ended up not staying, I did not join them.

"A lot of people thought that I was going to sign for Arsenal this summer, but Newcastle were all I had.

"I was never in contact with anybody at Arsenal. They made some enquiries but that was as far as it went.

"The only person I spoke to on the phone was Alan Pardew, and I really liked what he had to say.

"If it was all about money, I would now be in Russia and not in Newcastle. Many people did not understand my decision but it was easy for me.

"The Premier League is the best in the world and I'm happy with my choice. "

True, but then I'm better than Perch! I just think we can do better than that and would rather have a better player as cover rather than a good Championship/average PL defender.

Respect for Cabaye's honesty, there's no pandering to the fans or giving bullshit reasons as to why Newcastle was his first choice above Arsenal or someone; had enough of that sort of bullshit from Barton. Just need to make sure we keep playing well to give him a reason to stay, he'll know himself that he's one of our best players.

That's the problem though. With us being Newcastle, we will obviously find it hard to bring decent players in without the promise of first team football. I think some of our youngsters are good prospects though, and would rather see them given a chance unless we bring some real quality in. I like Tavernier, Henderson is doing well at Gateshead by all accounts and Kadar and Dummet are thought of very highly by both the club and their national sides.
