Rod, this looks a biased report. Our wonderful BBC News has just said its not clear if they were locals or Liverpool fans. Let's wait till the enquiry gives its official report. Whatever, the French Police are an absolute disgrace.
I remember ****ing awful queues ahead of the England's game in St Etienne. England fans got to the ground early and still had to wait for hours outside, with thousands having to squeeze through gaps between police, their vehicles and their fences. It took thosehours to get tickets checked BEFORE getting to the entrances. Huge numbers off fans gathered by the poor system to attempt to get in and some people got very scared by the crushes building up and the police as ever got lairy For those who have been to France they will know pepper spraying seems to be a choice of the police before giving fans information after kettling fans for hours!! News / breakfast TV this morning one story was a bloke and his two blind fans who went to the ground 3 hours before KO with genuine tickets and met problems getting in. THREE HOURS ???
One of the Liverpool fans forum leaders made a good point yesterday, how many other venues would it be expected that you’d need to queue hours before an event to get in. Imagine it being acceptable having to do that for any other event, the theatre, even large arena events that’s not expected, 3 hours and still many didn’t get in and many were charged by riot police and pepper sprayed. imagine you had a legitimate ticket, only to suffer that wait, be charged by riot police, and pepper sprayed, and not actually get in to see the match. It’s a disgrace, there is no excuse or justification for it. Instead of making excuses and blaming the fans the Authorities should apologise to them , take responsibility and investigate to find out what actually happened, there is no excuse for what happened it was a disgrace.
Yet there is still footage of Liverpool fans scaling the perimeter fences trying to get into a match for free, again. Yes the behaviour of the French police was appalling, and a good proportion of the Liverpool fans were well behaved and had legitimate tickets. But not all by a long way.
There is also footage of people who were not. Locals from St Denis. Liverpools fans were also being mugged by gangs in St Denis, no surprises there either. Your point?
Fans of Liverpool FC have a lot of previous form over the last 4 decades when it comes to causing death and damage at football matches and trying to get in without tickets. Not sure how many more times you want me to say it ?
Heysel was in 1985. In 1984 Bristol City fans rioted at Reading. and it was a riot. Bristol City fans also were involved in riots in the previous years. What happened at Heysel could have occurred with many other English teams. if there were not small time like Bristol City. Hooliganism is now controlled, it has not gone away, its controlled. And the result of the Hillsblorough inquests was? Liverpool fans were not to blame. So you are referring to? Behaviours that other teams fans do demonstrate, and have demonstated this season in the champlons league, notably Frankfurt at the Nou Camp. Behaviours that can be predicted and then should be subject to control measures.
I'm not talking about Bristol City, or Millwall, Chelsea, West Ham or anyone else, this is about Liverpool and the timeline of their fans behaviour makes no difference whatsoever. If you recall this is the same Liverpool and the actions of their fans at Heysel that got English teams excluded from European competition in 1986/7. But hey, they're all loveable Scousers really. So you can protect them all you like, it's your call, but we'll have to agree to differ on that I'm afraid.
In 1985 Bristol City fans ripped out hundreds of seats in our stadium tpo throw at Millwall, stole cars to drive at Milwall fans, car jacked Johnathon Pearce, looted the car mechanics off Clift road for weapons ... Lovable Wurzels really. I made reference to Heysel, it could have been numerous teams fans instead of Liverpool including our team if ... Bristol City were Freight Rover. History, timelines should make a difference. Risk assessment should evaluate recent relevant history. The predictable and expected behaviours of football fans, including the risk minority should have been evaluated and controlled. Champions League fans and locals clash with police after long delays at Stade de France - YouTube Liverpool fans assaulted and robbed by locals after final in France - YouTube The gangs you can see running around, and robbing people in these videos were not fans of either team. They have no tickets and they are directly outside the stadium. In regards to protection, yes that is what should occur. Authority should be keeping the peace. The French police failed to keep gangs of hundreds of ticketless North African youths away from the stadium. Scores of fans were mugged and assaulted by gangs involved in criminality. Whats sort of security cordon allows ticketless gangs in their hundreds through? People could have been killed. Dysfunctional organisation was to blame for what occured.
the CCTV footage outside the ground from the Champions League final has been deleted, according to the french football federation. anybody swallowing that??
