Liverpool FC asking for an investigation into the organisation of last night's game.

Merseyside police blaming their French counterparts and praising the fans behaviour.

Reporters last night exonerating the fans of any blame.

French authorities and UEFA saying thousands of fans turned up with fake tickets and hundreds climbed over perimeter fences breaching security.

Was the real Madrid end better organised? That end seemed to run like clockwork.

Real had no problem at their end

Ac Milan at their end 2007

What is common denominator? Lots of ticketless fans

You don't know that, stupid to just make things up.

It's the world we live in I suppose people want to have an opinion regardless of the facts.

Question for people that go to big games often...

At my club, I believe we are now ticketless, I know when I have tickets they are electronic to my phone. So the thought on my mind is if a little tinpot club like mine can organise something like that, why does it not happen for the worlds top games?

Surely that cuts down on fraudulent tickets, no?

Or is it impossible to manage big games as a ticketless venue, I'd have thought you shouldn't be allowed to hold the game unless you had a ticketless system?

Trying to understand this aspect of what went wrong last night. So how do Spurs, Man Utd and Liverpool operate for example?

At one point on bt sports it showed a birds eye view of the situation.

There were very few people milling around at the Real Madrid end. Inside the stadium the Madrid end looked full. There appeared to be no issues at that end of the stadium.

In contrast, the Liverpool end was reported to be only half full inside the stadium. Outside the turnstile area seemed really quiet but beyond the outer perimeter where tickets were being checked there were thousands of Liverpool fans waiting to get in.

That's not made up. That's fact. It was there for all to see.

The question is why were there so many fans not getting through at the Liverpool end? Was it organised differently to the Madrid end? Is there a different route in to the stadium? Did the police act differently? Were there too many fans I.e unexpected numbers without tickets which jammed the system up? Did fans breach security which shut down the stadium?

There certainly seemed to be too many fans outside compared to the seats left inside the stadium. There will be the Liverpool perspective, the UEFA perspective but the truth will lie somewhere in the middle.

Some clubs give you the choice though went to Leinster SF a couple of weeks ago and that was ticketless, I think the scousers all have burner phones so they couldn't do that.

Its great service but its also really dumb. You could be selling him for big bucks for a rebuild rather than letting him leave on a free ala coutinho.

Would love for him to stay another year and leave on a free

So you start off sensible and then make a leap that it was the fans fault. You don't know that and most reports are saying that the fans were not at fault. Perhaps some were? Who knows. But this desire to blame our fans when you simply don't know is plain idiotic.

    Great post.

At Leeds it's still paper tickets unless you have a season ticket card.

There is also a buy back option for ST holders once the game has been sold out and you get the money towards your next ST renewal and the club threaten life bans for fans selling tickets on the black market.

As you suggest it should be fairly easy to go electronic and non transferable.

One of our posters on the Leeds board regularly attends Scotland games and apparently the SFA use an electronic system.

The problem, as I understand it (at least according to the authorities) was that a lot of people had bought tickets from touts / unofficial sources that were fake - the electronic entry machines rejected these ... so a log jam ensued at the machines as angry fans with the fakes tried over and over to get in ...

Madrid fans mostly had genuine tickets which of course worked giving them automatic entry ...

and the good thing with the ticketless system is it's completely transferable without moving from your armchair - so if I can't make it due to ill health on the day of the game, I just email it to someone else. The only identifier is the purchaser, who will have an account with the club, so there is always one accountable person for a batch of tickets.

I should add our whole stadium is cashless, so you can only buy anything electronically.

I guess there weren’t thousands of drunk Madrid fans without tickets overcrowding the perimeter.

    like Athens 2007
