Positives: 9th in the prem We can get better Negatives: Playing awful football Shocking away from home Pulis still as stubborn as **** Player of last season hung out to dry Square pegs in Round holes No wing cover No proper left back Midfield after 3+ years still championship standard £8 mill C/M still not fit to even play even 15/45 mins Diao still gets a game Dwindling away support Help, i need reassurance.
Pretty accurate that, however I would like to add another positive. WE are playing in 1 less competition!!!!
So in total, we've got a grand total of 3 positives balanced out by 11 negatives. We're not bottom of the League! Positives: Beating some technically excellent European teams both home and away Our best performance against Man United in donkeys years Breaking our record signing (again) Signing Palacios, a definite upgrade on our current midfield. I just hope he gets fit asap Being 9th in the League, despite our two key wingers being half-fit Matthew Upson's performances - I think he's been excellent Shawcross' return to form On a personal note, the trips to Thun and Kiev were fabulous - both beautiful cities There are definitely many areas to work on, as The Mighty Huth highlights. However, the season's hardly been a miserable tale of abject failure, has it?
I think this season has been rather predictable so far. Superb at home, **** away. That's what we've always been like in the Prem.
Spot on sarge. Just check out our league position this time last year and considering the teams we have played, we are doing ok/better PLUS we are holding our own in Europe. I am not used to being this positive....back to reality.... ..exactly as per last season, our away form is desperate. Really hope we can get a good result on Monday night and we need the Brit to be rocking too! UTP!!
Welsh is right. there have been alot of positives, but they can all be wiped out in an instance with a bad performance or repeating the same errots that fester away!
I agree with Huthy to a point.. But Oatcakes you beat me to it matie.. GIVEN our HOME fixtures didn't we ALL agree that we would be lucky NOT to be in the bottom half, relegation BEFORE ths season started? Given the teams we've played at home and our **** performances away I'm actually over the moon we've actually done much better than I predicted. Away from home it's woeful and that's being kind. Palacios Christ knows WHY he doesn't start, at times he's on the bench but? Also, I'm sure that IF and I did say IF we can get both winger's fully fit we're looking OK, without BOTH we're an average side at best IMHO. Positives for me.. Utd Chelsea fantastic games the rest we've ridden out luck. Crouch looks like he can score plenty given the service. Walters, I think is playing better than he did last season. Looking very good in the Europa Cup let's keep that going and finally. CAN WE HAVE SOME NOISE ON MONDAY NIGHT PLEASE LADS.. I was singing my head off and it was like a graveyard. The lads need us and it's a night game. Correct Oatcakes.. let's get the Stadium ROCKING!!
That would be a negative for me, the apathy in the crowd, remind me a bit like last season when we went 270 mins without singing Del......
Thought it about time I added my twopennyworth. If it wasn't for our home form, we would have been relegated, same this season unless a certain somebody drags his head out of the sand. What's the point of having a coaching staff if you are going to ignore them, but having said that, they probably are all yes men, or blind men, whatever. Yes, we have been getting the results in Europe and playing well, and long may it continue, I think the 'Stoke Style' is NOT what they are used to week in and week out, young Shotton has been playing well in Europe from what I can gather from the TV and Stream on PC. As for team selection, I give up, just does NOT make any sense at all. Yup - a good thoughtful post Huthy, yup there are definite positives, and of course negatives, it will be no surprise to anybody, that in my opinion, the biggest negative is Pulis. Yes I know he got us into the Premier League (or Mr Coates's money did), and yes I am grateful Yes I know he kept us in the Premier League for the last 3 seasons (or Mr Coates's money did), and yest I am grateful Yes I know we got to the Cup Final last year, and played probably the worst game of last season. Yes I know where we were 5 years ago, I also remember in the 60's being at Leyton Orient on a February night, standing on a railway sleeper and getting hammered. Yes I know where we were 5 years ago or longer, watching us play Millwall at the Old Den, NOT a fun experience at the game OR after. Right now I am sick to the back teeth with: Negative tactics away from home. Absolute rubbish football away from home Sit on a 1-0 lead at home or away. When leading, take off 2 forwards and replace with - take your pick Diao, Whitehead etc etc Players out of position - Huth - say no more plus the others Favouritism And more disturbingly just lately, his constant whining when decisions do not go our way. We have this year, had our share of 'lucky' decisions at both ends of the pitch, when the decisions have gone our way - not a cheep from Pulis, take Wednesday night for instance, a couple of decisions go against us, and its whine, whinge, moan and his favourite saying:- "we'll take it on the chin and move on" - like bloody hell he does, still moaning this morning, oh and yes Shawcross DID give the Liverpool keeper an almighty shove just before Jonny's header!!! Yep Crouchy was pulled over - so bloody what. Anyway, going off to the bunker now!! INCOMING
I did say(look at the title thread) premier league your points 1: Europe, never mentioned it 2: Agree 3: Record signing? What has that got to do with how we are playing? 4: Like i said £8 mill, who after 2 months, plays 10 mins here & there & is blowing more than Moby Dick trying too escape a japanese whaling ship 5: 9th i agree is great, but we are playing crap & can play much better (what i originally said) 6: Can't fault him, prob been our best defender 7: Shawcross is still a bit dodgy, needs huth's guidance beside him 8: You are still talking about Europe No it has not been an abject failure, but i'm sure we can all see, that things could have been a whole lot better.
this season so far in my opinion....here we go........... Football is ****, player selection is **** and according to player selection Huth is going in January. Away form is in the worst state (performance wise) since we were 2 leagues lower ( not like many of you would know what our form was like then). Glory hunting fans is up 50% and real fans cant get tickets. We buy players worth millions yet all they can do is head (please someone disagree.....) Ive watched Swanseda 3 times and they have played more football than we have in our 4 years in the prem. Please Pulis **** OFF!!!!!!!! that is all and for all you people who say look where we were 4 years ago look at how much money he has spent in the 4 years we have been promoted. For gods sake get your heads out of the clouds and DEMAND change and lets start paying £35 for some entertainment rather than a right big pile of ****e (even Liverpool in the carling cup fits this category). Where we deserved to be twatted 4 nil. I expect to be attacked but this is my opinion as a 17 year stoke city fan and I dont give a ****!!!!!. We are playing **** and we should be a lot lower in the league than we are. heres hoping......................
1. Why not include Europe, out of interest? 3. Nothing really, just shows that we're capable of signing higher profile players than in previous seasons. 4. We signed Palacios on a four year deal, not a two month one. I think he'll be a good player for us, and he's certainly shown glimpses of his superior passing range. 5. And I also agreed that things could be better. 7. I think Shawcross has been better alongside Upson than he was alongside Huth last season. Huth is 3rd choice CB for me at the moment. 8. See point 1. And to reiterate, I agree that things could be better but they've been discussed to death on other threads. If I was to rate our season out of 10 so far, I'd give it a 7.
A SEVEN????????????? so how many games have you watched? personally id rate our league form as 4 and our europa cup form as 8 ( which I couldnt give a **** about)
coludnt agree more, and I would say we are very lucky to have as many points as we have. A very very poor year from a poor manager who loves to play **** football. Pulis **** off!!!!. The amount of money he has spent we should be playing quality football yet we still have delap and whitehead doing the same old ****. I am really tired of this manager!!!!
I've been to all but two games, and that includes all the European games. The average of your scores is 6, so I guess my 7 wasn't as mental a suggestion as you're makng out (bear in mind that some people could "give a ****" about how we do in Europe).
Once again, bear in mind that people are allowed opinions that differ from your own. For me, Shawcross has been our best defender this season closely followed by Upson, with Huth third AT THE MOMENT. Form changes, but in my opinion Upson or Shawcross haven't done anything to warrant being dropped (I'm not saying that it was right to drop Huth in the first place, mind). Ps Without going into detail, I wouldn't agree that 2011 has been a "poor year". However, I respect your opinion.
Jose - Thun is lovely isn't it, the Bernese Oberland is spectacular, all the buildings around the steamer pier by River Aare used to be really olde worlde. If they are still there!
i respect your opinion but I dont understand how our best player last season (huth) cant get into the starting 11, and when he dies get in he is played out of position. I feel really sorry for huth and he will be going in january and how hes been treated this season you cant blame him. Really bad Management AGAIN!!. I can feel a Tuncay situation happening again, oh well Pulis is the mesiah after all............ utpssss
