Afternoon all So Bielsa blocked transfers, something we all knew or suspected but two positives from this. 1) We had money in January 2) We’d unidentified players who were obtainable So if we don’t strengthen and if we don’t get several faces in before Pre Season the board were fibbing and I hope they have this pointed out to them should it happen
Bielsa supposedly agreed this transfer so is JM also on board with it or is every transfer decision back in the hands of Orta?
Dunno it sounds like Marsch has some input as we're meant to be in for Tyler Adams (Leipzig) Sergio Desch ( Barca) and both Minaimino who have played under Marsch But then we've got some Croatian lad possibly coming in from Dinamo Zagreb who should have signed back in Jan but relegation was a factor.
Orta and marsch have been talking for two years apparently and marsch was being lined up to take over this summer before bielsa sacking. Given he played for jm at Salzburg, If marsch wasn’t the originator of the idea to get aaronson (which he may have been) it seems hard to believe he wasn’t at least used as a reference for him back in Jan. I’m only guessing but I imagine the dof/manager relationship stays the same just that the current manager may be less exacting in his demands and the pool of players to be considered may be a little wider.
What’s the point of a director of football if you give the coach the power to decide who comes in? We made a huge exception for Bielsa and it nearly bit us this season. It’s always bewildered me that we gave Bielsa a team of average Chapionship players and he worked pure magic. Give him control of the purse strings and he was dangerous, by that I mean he had nowhere near the same effect on players who came in for big money. I’m sure the coach will have a bit of an input like we need more central attackers, or we need a cb with pace or a better LB or I want an experienced back up keeper, they might even throw a name into the hat for the DOF to check up on but I don’t believe Jesse will be given the same freedom in signings that Bielsa was given. Talking of which, Bamford wasn’t even Bielsas first choice, Che Adams and who was the other striker who we were after at the time as bother were ahead of him?
… I think the DOF/manager relationship varies at every club. Basic guide is they discuss as a management team where the squad needs strengthening and the DOF tries to find suitable players to a profile they agree on. But who has final say? It should be the DOF as the manager is only a run of defeats from the sack, so it stops the continuity issue. But what’s the point of buying someone the manager doesn’t want if he won’t play him? Probably accounts for some of the shouting matches between orta and bielsa.
So as a lot of you on here have been pointing out Orca’s poor success rate with his signings, you’re saying we now have a manager more inclined to allow his **** signings to join
