Cork City Football Club (Irish: Cumann Peile Chathair Chorcaí) is an Irish football team that plays in the League of Ireland. Founded and elected to the league in 1984 to continue the long tradition of Association Football in Cork, City's traditional colours are green and white with red trim, and the crest is a variant of the Cork coat of arms. The club play home games at Turners Cross. It was one of the first clubs in Ireland (and the first in Cork) to field a team of professional footballers. With the progression of professionalism at the club, continued development of the Turner's Cross stadium and the transition to summer football, the club became one of the biggest and best supported clubs in the country.
Between 2008 and 2010 however, the club suffered financial hardships and management controversy. The club entered a period of examinership in 2008 and was subject to a winding up order taken by the Office of the Revenue Commissioners. Despite some temporary stays, the financial and management issues meant the resignation of the club chairman, several months of court and legal wrangling, and denial of a Premier Division license by the FAI licensing committee. Ultimately the club's holding company, Cork City Investments Fc Ltd, was wound up by the courts. The fans ensured City was still represented in the League of Ireland by entering under the temporary name Cork City FORAS Co-op in the immediate aftermath of the winding up of the previous holding company Cork City Investments Fc Ltd. The club subsequently purchased the rights to the name "Cork City Football Club" from the liquidators and now compete under this name. Cork City FC never ceased to exist as the former holding company Cork City Investments Fc Ltd was still in existence during its liquidation period when the name and intellectual property were purchased, and the underage teams continued to exist under the name while owned and funded by the fans.

And after another great win tonight we are top of the first division with 1 game left, Shelbourne though have 2 games in hand, but points on the board are better than potential points .

cheers <ok> even if they fail <shudder the thought> it shows that fans can own their clubs and be relatively successful , last season was a finding the feet season and this one is flying. €120 for a share or €60 if you are on the dole. It's small scale obviously but imagine a club in the premier league with 40,000 or more fans , it could easily be a success story

he was never with Cork , Eric <ok> , Dan Murray (club capt) and would've been legend ****ed off , along with some others , but Davey 'scouse' Rodgers, and Danny 'cockney rebel' Murphy came back last season in the clubs hour of need. Davey has retired this season , but Danny is still tearing teams a new arsehole from left back <ok>

he was ok , not a kevin doyle or shane long (both City protegés) but he was solid week in week out , Most of the two leagues were in trouble with their finances as the clubs all got bought by developers and property 'tycoons' and we all know how that panned out. The majority of Irish clubs now have some form of fan ownership/involvment though and it's benefiting the leagues. Look at the Tallaght maggots into the group stage of the Europa.

What a story.

A couple of years ago, Cork City were in big trouble financially. And now they have won the league!

Congratulations.
