Using the loan market can be good strategy if used correctly. Look at Gallagher, Broja, Lingard last season. I'm all for another young player loan signing from a big club if it will help us, even if just for a season.
Absolutely. And Palmer looks decent, don't get me wrong. But Lingard is an ex-England player, Gallagher had spent three seasons out on loan with various teams prior to Palace, and even Broja had spent a full season in the Eredivise. I'd be a bit concerned if we use one of our loan placements on someone who has barely kicked a ball in the professional men's game.
I tend to agree with what they were saying on the last TSP, which is that looking at “Ralph’s positions”, which are keeper, CB, 6, 10, and striker, if we managed a single upgrade in all of those, it would be a very good start.
We can loan 2 players total from other PL teams, and only 1 from the same club. So if we loan Palmer we won’t get Delap. I think Anjorin (is he out of contract?) will be a signing we make from Chelsea, he is a number 10 type from what I’ve seen of him. As for loans I’m not very knowledgable about young players who aren’t playing regularly somewhere so if I had to handpick two it would be Colwill from Chelsea and Delap from City as the two I’d go for this season
He also didn’t get a look in for Huddersfield. I know he joined injured but he was there for months and hardly kicked a ball in anger for them
7 games according to Wiki, joined in Jan didn’t he? Don’t think that’s too bad as he signed injured and Huddersfield are in the playoffs so had a decent side already
I don’t think there was a single start in there though because i was loosely following it Yep - only 132 league minutes across those 7 games. 2 games not in squad even post injury. 2 games where he didn’t get off the bench in the league. He also didn’t get off the bench in either play off game
Maybe his time at Huddersfield will put us off then, the links seemed solid in Jan that we were keen on him.
Gerrard made this seem inevitable. Wonder what that means for Ings considering they spent £30m on him just last summer and he already seemed to be second fiddle to Watkins.
I'm fine with a loan signing or two. There will be plenty of permanent deals as well (the club has pretty thoroughly telegraphed that the squad is getting a major overhaul), but if we're trying to shift some of our bad and expensive depth while keeping most of our resources for signing significant improvements to the starting XI, that's basically what the loan market is for.
Yeah I think a loan or two is very sensible, and if it's Cole Palmer then it makes it exceptionally sensible. He's brilliant.
Keep reading that Dragowski is a done deal. He's Polish, which is good for Bednarek, and stark raving mental, which is good for Lyanco. Hopefully he enjoys building sandcastles!
Also, we could really use a player who is too young and too fearless to notice that everyone else is turning to pass the ball sideways. I'm down with recruiting a squad of just the craziest PL-quality players available. If we can't have a team of Charlie Waymans, might as well have a team of Charlie Days.
