I’m just wondering how many players have gone on to play for England after they’ve left us?
Pearson, Marwood, Maguire, Bowen, Tomori (technically)

I know Huddlestone, Barmby, Dawson & Livermore all were international’s before they joined us & of course as soon as Livermore was transferred he got called up.

    Anyone else?

Quite a number from the 1920s and 1930s played for England after they left Hull City - Dave Mercer, Jackie Crawford, Ernie Blenkinsop, Ronnie Starling, Sam Weaver, Tommy Gardner. A few from that era had been England internationals earlier in their careers - Russell Wainscoat, Jack Hill (who became City manager and later chief scout), Austen Campbell, Arthur Cunliffe.

In the decade or so after WW2 we had a more who had played for England prior to joining City - Raich Carter, Neil Franklin, Wilf Mannion, Stan Mortensen, Vic Metcalfe, Jackie Sewell. And one more who later played for England - Don Revie.

Then you jump to the 70s, 80s and 90s for two more that later played for England - Stuart Pearson, Brian Marwood. Plus former England internationals in Emlyn Hughes, Peter Barnes, Mark Hateley and David Rocastle.

Then jumping to the modern era, past England players - Nicky Barmby, Danny Mills, Ray Parlour, Anthony Gardner, Tom Huddlestone, Michael Dawson, Ryan Mason. And future England players - Fraizer Campbell, Jake Livermore, Harry Maguire, Fikayo Tomori.

And finally there is the first of all - Gordon ‘EGD’ Wright who won one full England cap in March 1906 a few weeks ahead of his City debut, although by then he was already committed to playing for the Tigers on amateur terms and could reasonably be considered a Hull City player. Wright also won 20 England Amateur caps and was selected for two Olympics tournaments.

So what if they do. I hate this miserable attitude to international football that so many English football fans have. We're obsessed with how playing in internationals might affect the availability of players for club games.

Thought Reg Dwight was Elton John.

He did used to post on CI in a similar style to the way big vern does on here nowadays.

It's funny how a bloke from 1906 had such an interesting and wide ranging career mind - and still does his bit for the non-binary community even today.

I think you’ve got hold of the wrong end of the stick there, I read it as he gets injured before playing for England, not whilst playing for England.

So you don't care if, potentially our best player is injured in, probably some utterly pointless friendly game.
Your quite right, I consider international football pointless crap, but there you go.

I love international football. I love watching England play.

I'd be delighted if a current City player got a call up.

I don't think it'd be any worse than if England's best player got injured playing in a pointless club game. Nor is it any more likely. But for some reason people are obsessed specifically with internationals causing injuries and fatigue and never the other way around.

I almost never watch international football, I find it sterile and boring. Mind you, I'm not very keen on watching Premier League much either.

Greavesy I think has the best chance. He should’ve been in the u21s now. James Hill got in despite playing 1 championship game all season and that was a 1 minute sub cameo.

Greaves has a huge ceiling and has brilliant people around him. Englands best left footed centre half is Mings. If he makes the right decisions I have no doubt he’ll one day make the step. Although he has a lot of competition in that position. Feel he was very unlucky not to get in the u21s he performed better then all those included this season. 2 of them didn’t even play more then 10 games

Greaves may have what it takes to become a full international one day, but to do it while at City, as TB hoped for, something very significant would have to happen at our club. We'd have to be in the PL at the very least.

Greaves is a decent player, he can pass the ball, bring it out, reminds me of Maguire when he was here, he can tackle, but he has a bad habit of giving away stupid fouls. I’ve said it before, nothing has changed my mind in the last few months, he’s decent, but not the great defender that so many seem to believe he is, at the moment!
