I don't understand but I guess they've won so many they don't really give a **** now. Are the fans in the ground actually real?
I just think they don’t appreciate like those clubs who have to go through the blood sweat and tears which makes that day if it comes all the more beautiful and ****ing great. It’s hollow when it’s a sugar daddy FC who buy the league season after season It’s as simple as that for me
Interesting question and debate imo. How about we say Leeds, I think if Leeds got a multi-billion dollar takeover by some government who had insane resources, the club would not lose it's identity. Because Leeds is a club that is just MASSIVE in its area of the country, they have dedicated fans a recognised name and stadium. You just know who Leeds are. Chelsea, despite Suckys bantz on here, were a recognised outfit before Roman. They weren't as good, but they're a well known London side from a relatively nice part of the capital. I think that's why you would say they didn't lose their image. I think Newcastle being the sole team in Newcastle is a huge contributing factor towards them not losing that key identity and that feeling they're Newcastle United. The blunt honest truth of the matter is this. No one gave and no one gives a flying **** about City other than the limited oddballs within Manchester who decided to support them instead of Man U when they were kids. I think City were ruined by the owners BEFORE the current lot, who decided to change the badge and **** when they were still ****ing gash. Jumped the gun, the new owners came in and took over a club that everyone had lost interest in and that is something they're trying to combat. I am aware City were once a very good side, before money. But so were Everton.
Newcastle lined the streets with hundreds of thousands when they lost cup finals, so nothing will change if Newcastle wins something. Chelsea and City had won less than nufc before their sportswashing... Now its our turn
Just like when we lose but the crowd sees a bus with a cup being held up on it I guess. I know what you mean like came close to the point you just know it'll never happen, but I suspect if we stay alive for another decade newcastle will be getting close again.
They had a bit of success with likes of Gianluca Vialli, winning the FA cup and league cup, but they absolutely skewed the whole landscape of football when Roman came in and started chucking his rubles around. It was literally a case of throw as much money at it and see what sticks approach. They forced up transfer fees and player wages, and even bought players so that their rivals couldn't buy them. FFP was brought in exactly because of Chelsea and they way they financially doped their team to win trophies. The Chelsea pre-Roman Abramovich was a million miles away from the Chelsea when he came in, and they are absolutely comparable with what City have done too. Simply bought their success with obscene amounts of money.
Funnily, I always saw Man City of old (Maine Road) as second best, much like I'd always seen Newcastle, never the winner. I know Munse will point to the trophies of the 50's, but at that point I just switch off because I wasn't even born then. Point being with City, what happened to your heritage....bit like MK Dons, no heritage. I just don't associate Man City now, of Man City of old. For other teams its worked, but City will always be overshadowed by United and it don't matter how many billions you throw at them.
If they managed an FA Cup within my lifetime that's enough. I'd take how Tottenham are as peak tbh. They compete.
I'm not arguing any of that, just arguing why some people don't compare them as one another on face value and why I don't think others will be compared to City so easily.
Thing is when I'm old as ****, everyone my age now will be going on about how City are an old school winning side and I'll be sat in my rocking chair saying "they was nuttin before them arabs" "arabs went extinct in the 2070s Grandad."
For me Chelsea had far more heritage than City in my lifetime, I could probably still name you the 70's Chelsea team.
