please log in to view this image When I saw the phrase Eton Mess and Jamie Oliver appearing on the web, I presumed that “Eton Mess” was some sort of reference to Boris. But no, it seems that an Eton Mess is some dish that the failed restaurant business millionaire Oliver had come up with for a protest at Downing Street. It hardly looks short on calories for a demo supposedly about obesity in children. It seems that Oliver is more brain dead than I previously thought. The government has done a U-turn on banning “Buy One Get One Free” (BOGOF) deals in supermarkets. Those favouring a ban argue that it leads to obesity because people get two unhealthy items of food and, obviously, eat them both at the same sitting. Those favouring freedom of choice argue that nobody forces anyone to eat both at the same time and that, when there is allegedly a cost of living crisis, allowing people to stock up and save money might be considered a helpful measure. If I went and bought a frozen pizza today and got another one free then I could put one of them in the freezer for next week, eating just the one with a beer while watching the rugby.
