If Karl Urban had not put on the quiet croaky voice,
his depiction of Dredd would have been perfect.

 

It's a great depiction of him. They don't tell you what Dredd is, they show you.

 

The one thing they missed out, is that Dredd would
always tell the perps precisely what sections of
the penal code they were now subject to.

Not a problem for me. He was the perfect Dredd. What a shame a sequel was never made. Not often you get a "proper 18" film that hasn't been downplayed to get a lower certificate. And the violence was completely integral and appropriate to the plot and situation. And any chef that serves up dodgy food to the squad before the game should get the Dredd treatment.
