…there’s one more bloody game. Leicester City vs Southampton, 4.00pm Philbert Street or thereabouts Things I know about Leicester; It’s a **** town near Derby If you’re walking there from the station, it’s on the right after the rugby ground. You can’t miss it, it’s basically St Mary’s in blue. Apparently they won the league or something, in 2016. That can’t be true, surely? Also, they beat us in the most joyless, soul destroying FA Cup semi final in football history recently. There’s a nagging sense at the back of my mind that there’s some other significant result I should remember; but I can’t. Let’s have some pictures; The boy Line-Aker A Legend… Another more recent Legend… Let’s have it right btw, if Mick Channon knew what Twitter was, he’d be upsetting people and embarrassing himself and us, just like Matt has been. But he’d still be Mick Channon, like Matt is still Matt. Anyway, moving on. Up next, working man’s George Best, and world class bingo caller, Oh Frankie Frankie Meanwhile, Leicester have a world class keeper, Casper is the best in the league imo. We have two to choose from, a giant in concrete boots, who wasn’t offered a contract, and some other bloke who was. Hooray. Back down memory lane, there was this bloke, 2nd only to Banksie imo Alright, that’s your lot. If by some miracle we don’t get beat, I’ll be back in August to do the first game of the season; which, I’m calling it now, will be a 0-0 draw at home to Burnley. And I’ll be there with my poor old dad because I had a rush of blood to the head recently and renewed my ST. Over 50 years I’ve been following these twats; it’s been a few islands of happiness in an ocean of pain, but oh, some of those islands… Alright then, God bless you all; may football be the winner on Sunday .
Archers? You may have been around. The other significant result was a 4-4 draw between the two sides in Saints first season in the top flight. Never in my life did I consider Gordon Banks ever conceding oñe goal let alone four!
Leicester were in fact the first team I supported, the reason being that I had and still have relations living there. The person responsible for this was my grandmother's husband whom she wed in the spring of 1963 in the weeks just before the Cup Final. I was mortified when a team that finished 4th that season could lose to a team (Manchester United) that finished 4th from bottom. My Dad soon fixed that fixation by taking me to the Dell.
More effort than Saints put in Tuesday eve! Great MDT Probably more interesting than the actual game. Yep, I’m still burnt.
I'm going to this one, if only to see how many Leicester fans stay behind to applaud their team after we beat them
My only real interest here is listening to Dave Merrington's final commentary on Solent. The game feels very unimportant
Would not be surprised if we didn't turn up at all, as we seem to be so ****ing apathetic at the moment (not that in anyway can Ralph be blamed...of course...)
Spat out my coffee at this point. Never has the experience of following Saints been described so eloquently and perfectly
