I see that Dawson has been sent to have scans on his achilies. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/15504803.stm If he is out for months I believe that Harry should pull out all stops to try and sign Cahill. Gallas and King being injury prone- leaving Kaboul and Bassong our only fit CB's. Thoughts?
It was reported that we were in contact with Bolton in regards to Cahill soon after the window shut, although this news gives them an extra bargaining chip.
Very disappointing news. We've had a lot of trouble with injuries at the back for a while now. I hope it's just bad luck and not something that's being done incorrectly in training or oversights by our medical staff.
Actually, going back to Cahill for a moment - what about Chris Samba? Blackburn are just as deep in the brown stuff at the moment but his performances are far more committed than Cahill's have been this season, he also wants out, and there's less chance of his transfer value being inflated by having to pay the English Premium.
Considering Cahill is out of contract at the end of season Bolton have hardly any bargaining power in jan! I would prefer samba though
True. But could you not also see Bolton willing to take the hit on Cahill and keep him in a hope of him helping them stay in the league?
I think it depends on the player! If bolton carry on like this I think he will try to force a move in jan
While I think they are both good CB's, we are more likely to get Cahill as I don't think Blackburn are likely to want to sell Samba due to the league position. Just remember how he played against us last week.
Samba did have a good game against us and as he showed is useful for set pieces at both ends.I would love us to try for him and Hoilett, although that really would consign Blackburn to relegation.I personally like Samba as he seems to have some leadership qualities in him and is a bigger physical presence than Cahill.
I wouldn't mind a move for both. If Bassong goes, which seems increasingly likely, then we might need two centre-backs. I think Cahill will probably be off to Chelsea, especially after some of their recent defensive horror shows. Nedum Onuoha's another player that I'd like to see us go for. He's way down the pecking order at City, only making one league cup appearance this season and he's a versatile young defender.
I read some hack saying Man city might be in for Cahill - no proof or anything, but the piece was written with the underlying message that if City come in for a player it's no use bidding, which is utter bollocks. Of cours,e if they did sign him, it'd be even more obvious they'd be doing what Chelsea have done for years - sign players so their rivals can't have them. As for Onuoha, he's probably the poster boy for The New City - someone who worked his way up from the youth team and contibutes week-in week-out is sidelined in favour of whichever centre back Hughes or Macini decided to pay through the nose for.
