Less than keeping them in hotels here for the rest of their lives, I'd wager.

It’s really not. It’s hugely expensive. Plus it’s in breach of human rights law. So illegal,

Well Australia tried a similar scheme and was a financial disaster and people in their own party are saying the same - see my other posted link - I think it’s just bluff for a few brownie points from xenophobic voters to be honest. From what I know - and I do work with young people/families who’ve travelled - it won’t -because the lies spread by the traffickers or the family ties or alternative options are as they would be - too strong to think or care of the risk. I often play this when I train staff or volunteers. My experience is that this is a similar story - what they’ve left - the journey, the promises made by traffickers . The only bit that isn’t real these days is the warm welcome

Yeah I do. Because they are obsessed with sound bites for popularity for power. They didn’t exactly care about sensible finances during Covid. They’re throughly unethical and incompetent in my view.

Does anyone know what “service “ they get whilst being put up in hotels? It’s not that they need bed making and cleaning on a daily basis - so if that doesn’t happen , do the hotels charge less than normal rate , or are they on a nice little earner at our expense ?

Generally poor quality hotels that are empty not plush ones. Deals are negotiated by the favoured businesses running the contracts like g4s (run by Theresa May’s husband) who negotiate a cheap deal so they can max the profits. It’s emotive the ‘hotel’ stuff. I don’t know the price but it’s cut price and homes are generally unwanted private rents on estates or high crime areas with existing tensions hence why Rwanda scheme is possibly more costly. They generally come here with trauma then live where we choose not to live.

Aye apologies you’re right. Thought that was a given.
Still, murky relationships with the two big providers of migrant accommodation

‘Taxpayers might also be galled about the reliance of G4S on Coronavirus handouts, given that the company was forced to pay a £44.4 million fraud bill to the UK Government in early July this year. This payment was to compensate the Government for false bills, charged to the public purse in 2011 and 2012, for security tagging people who were either dead, in prison or had not actually been tagged.

The National Audit Office also reported in 2013 that G4S had paid no corporation tax the year before, despite logging billions of pounds in Government contracts.

The G4S spokesperson added that “the vast majority of our employees have continued to work through the pandemic providing essential services to our customers around the world”.

    Outsourcing a Crisis
There is also controversy over a second major outsourcing firm, Serco, that has recorded significant growth during the pandemic.

Last week, the UK-based firm – the CEO of which, Rupert Soames, is the grandson of Winston Churchill – announced that it had recorded a 400% increase in operating profit during the first half of 2020’

It was information that was widely disseminated at the time that Theresa May became Prime Minister so its not surprising that people have assumed that its fact. There were a lot of other things that were said about him at the time that were also not true. I'm not blaming you, but its this kind of thing that really bothers me- the spreading of misinformation, deliberate misinterpretation of the facts, and skewed reporting. Its exactly the same with the 'Lisa Nandy wants to abolish the armed forces' story and the 'Angela Rayner admits to Basic Instinct ploy' story and a variety of other situations where the facts have been skewed. I really hate it. It does nothing to improve the situation, just causes people's views to become more entrenched. Plays into the confirmation bias thing.

The big 'government service provider'/'public service provider' companies are always at the centre of controversies but always manage to get more work. I think its got more to do with the fact that there are only a small number of companies doing that kind of thing than anything else. I don't think there's much relevance in Rupert Soames being involved with Serco, to be honest. Its just making a very tenuous link to try and imply malpractice- unless there is direct evidence you can't assume anything.

Don't be silly, what you are implying is that Bonko didn't get Brexit Done!

The cornerstone of his being PM.

Someone will also bring up the lack of PPE (ignoring their own report) the fraud and scandal of PPE procurement, the debacle of test and trace (and cost) and worst of all the neglect of Care Homes that killed thousands of elderly folk.

Of course once Oxford/AZ came up with a vaccine that was down to Bonko (not) and Bonko claimed credit for delivering the vaccine (not), it was the NHS.

The idea that Bonko won the election on lies and has lied about everything since, ( I see building more houses isn't going to happen as NIMBY'S can now preventive It.)
Without even mentioning partygate so our PM is now a sort of convict!

So it seems Bonko is on course to be the worst PM ever? Still he is channeling (or trying to) his inner Churchill with the Ukraine War as a distraction to how awful he is.

Aye I try to use full fact to check as much as possible to avoid the misinformation but I’m guessing this pre dated it.
I’ve had dealings with the G4S and Serco’s and many others on justice and work programmes and other things. They get the work because they undercut because of their wealth and ability blend management costs from other big programmes. It’s low cost and low quality and are frankly insulting when it comes to subcontracting to smaller organisations or the charitable sector. They pay badly and are bad for developing the sector but are big enough to take risks on things like payment by results but often leave because the schemes are unworkable almost to the point of exploitation- hence the blagging for money and poor quality. Justice / probation has collapsed and gone back to public sector. There are some brilliant local non Public sector organisations but they couldn’t operate under the terms. It’s been a huge waste and affected peoples lives with vulnerable offenders losing confidence in a messy unhelpful system at the cost to victims and the community and financially to the taxpayer as people are imprisoned because they don’t progress. Many heads should roll about justice alone although Grayling took the hit. I hear very worrying things about migration housing - no electricity, insecure access for people hated for being there resulting in attacks and have dealt with a couple of terrible hate incidents started by gossip and the work programme was largely a farce. All of this affects lives but frankly this arrogant lot don’t give a ****.
