I think we'll win the next 32 games, and having secured automatic promotion Dyche will make up for lost time and field 11 academy players on the last day of the season.

Coming back from a shopping trip with my daughter this afternoon, we came past a lady on the side of the main road preparing her dinner. To put it less delicately she was bumping off a rabbit.

"Thank goodness the children weren't with us" says daughter, "how could I explain to them what was happening to the cute little bunny?"

Most of the French country children grow up with animals being killed either for their meat or by the chasse because they are pests. Are people just unable to recognize what is wrapped in plastic these days was a different shape once?

OFH - I have a different twist on that theme. As I am sure to have told a few times, I used to have a French boss who was based in the UK. One day I told him about Mrs W_Y's pet rabbit and he could not understand why we were not fattening it up for the pot and the concept of a "pet rabbit" seemed alien to him. Then a couple of years ago, he moved back to France and we visited him down in Bergerac where he had a holiday farm house and that is where is family came from. One afternoon we visited his parents - and blow me they had rabbits running around the garden. So I asked when they would be ready for the pot - the response? "oh, no these are pets!"....I did have to laugh!

Frenchie you have just made a load more vegetarians and vegans , and contributed to the rise of anorexia and buliemia! please be more careful in what you write !
Of course meat comes in packages from the supermarkets!!! Please dont listen to these tall tales of how it used to be ! animals running around ,then being eaten , what a horrible thought!

Tomorrow morning I will be taking three little girls to the market which will have one section devoted to livestock. Rabbits, chickens, sheep, kid goats, horses and even llamas. Some of the smaller creatures will be bought, placed in bags and boxes and taken back home in anticipation of Noel and the New Year. The girls will enjoy stroking them and seeing something different to their normal surburban lives, without knowing the true fate. Should I tell them, or leave them to just enjoy things a bit longer? I think I will chicken out. ;)

OFH - sensibilities are why we do not eat cow but "beef" and pig but "pork" Not sure why cute little lambs have no protection - maybe ancient Anglo Saxon could not find a suitable Nordic word :)

Just read that HArry Rednapp reckons Neil Warnock is a serious contender as the next England Manager - is he on drugs?

I wonder when and how these sensibilities started? When I was a little boy, my mum used to take me over to Snalbans on the bus. We used to walk around the cattle market and I was fascinated by the chickens and rabbits - but we regularly had rabbit stew, so I was well aware of the connection even as a very small child. Our children were all brought up to understand that connection - in fact we used to have a slaughter house at the end of the road we used to live in, so they were more than aware - mind you after a sheep escaped and ran down our drive and into our garden chased by men in overalls, Mrs W_Y has never eaten sheep meat again!

I used to work in an abattoir in Oz - was in the kill floor one morning when the stun gun didn't work properly on a bull. It was the men in overalls who were being chased that time - scattered everywhere, even climbed up greasy poles.

Strangely enough, I don't eat beef either.
