I think they've worked out they can't defend so might as well just attack, I wouldn't bet against this being our only 5-3 win this season....
When you are still conceding goals like that at set pieces after 5 years, and have done nothing to change it.. He kind of has a point.
Today we played quick balls up to our fastest players Gervinho and Walcott in order to exploit Chelsea's high line. Given this was a different approach to our normal possession based football would you not say that Wenger changed his tactics to combat the opposition here? Looks like he did a good job of it too.
Well as I see it there are 2 ways of combating overlapping fullbacks A)Play someone like Park Ji Sung who will track them all the way or B) Play quick players on the wings who will either scare the full backs in to not attacking or take advantage of the space the leave in behind. Today Wenger did the latter and it worked beautifully, in fact he even tried both approaches as the substitution of Rosicky late on showed.
We could have scored 6 too though! Come on you have to admit that it worked out overall, look how many goals we got from the wings!
Vey very unfair Jayram. Wenger is still a brilliant manager. Although you know I agree with you that Wenger is tactically naeve but he is also an amazing technical coach. Our teams have always been incredibly exciting going forward and played with a degree of flair rarely seen in the English game. This is still the same guy who built the undefeated 2003-2004 side (in my opinion the greatest side ever to never win a European Cup.) His understanding of diet, youth developement and scouting have completely transformed Arsenal. So what he lacks in tactical understanding he makes up for in other areas. We've never not qualified for the Champions League which is actually an incredible feat (especially considering the financial repercussions of a stadium move). He has his flaws but then so does everyone.
Hey I'm not disputing the man has his flaws, I just think we should acknowledge he is a great manager.
