Rumours for Courtinho persist, not sure id be totally up for it tbh, seeing as it would be around £35m for a 29 year old. Could be the end for Maxi if we sign him.
He'd play off the RW or as part of the middle 3 I'd have guessed - not a major threat to ASM but he's a creative attacker so would indicate we could see a shift from 4-3-3 to a 4-2-3-1 this season but if that's the case Shelvey will be done for - not enough about him to play a double pivot 6&8 role. Bruno and Joelinton plus another 2 solid defensive CM's then Coutinho / Willock in the CAM role with ASM and another worldly winger either side or Wilson up top? At £33million as well it would be a great signing. Regardless Coutinho would be a massive statement signing. Experienced international who knows the league, played at some top clubs and an upgrade on just about everything we have in any position across the CAM/Wing positions.
If us ending out interest in Lingard is true because his wages are too high at £150k p/w and doesn’t fit our wage structure, I highly doubt we will be in for Coutinho.
Trippier is on about £120k pw and i doubt Bruno is on much less. Our wage structure may soon become a thing of the past.
Lingard wouldn't be worth more than 80k a week and even if you can pay it should you? Coutinho is a different league to Lingard and worth that kind of money. Lingard Games 298 Goals 56 GPG 1/6 Coutinho Games 467 Goals 110 GPG 1/4
I think it's done as the yearly wage so if they're getting £5 mil over 5 years only £1 mil counts to that years FFP
I honestly think this summer will be far more measured an approach than people anticipate. 50 to 80ms is my bet
Get the right people in and that will be fine. I'm assuming you have that as a net spend? We have some deadwood to shift! Very few players are actually worth keeping
I think we've just spent roughly £80m in January to stay up and people were saying we could spend up to £200m in January : "Newcastle United will only spend around a quarter of their £190million budget in January, according to reports. The club's new Saudi Arabian owners are likely to make £50m available to sign players in their first transfer window since replacing Mike Ashley at the helm." So if there was £100m left over from FFP there I think we could be looking at around £150m this summer - links with Coutinho at £35-40m would indicate they will look to bring in 1-2 star signings and Eddie will want 3-5 more 1st team and squad players. Honestly think we'll double down on someone crazy and have a new most expensive transfer in the summer.
Interesting our odds to sign Darwin Nunez have risen dramatically, only behind Man U now. Also favourites for Calvert Lewin and Henderson. Wouldn't be blown away by either of them though.
Lewin is worryingly realistic, but Nunez I find it hard to believe will happen along with the osinhem story. Henderson I think is a cert...
DCL has played even less games than Wilson this season! And like Wilson missing for the key part of the season. I cant believe we'd be interested im him at all after the experiences with Gayle, Wilson, Carroll etc. Nunez is still a long shot, but good to see the odds going down.
I doubt newcastle can pull a top striker yet... Nobody established anyway. They'll have something not quite right about them or they'll have fallen out of favour perhaps. DCL falls into that category and howe might take that punt because only this time last year he was hot property. They can't just go out buying Nunez or at least that's by view atm. I think many nufc fans are setting themselves up to be disappointed this summer. The club have repeatedly told us that it's going to be done slowly and we need to have patience.
Top strikers are harder to get and bruno is still relatively unproven. I'll get abuse for suggesting that but he looks very good so far
Bruno claims he was told by the club that they are aiming for CL etc sooner rather than later. Need quality for that
