Let's face it boys ... only one team won the title in the last 30 years without spending a billion Forza Claudio
Blackburn ... Uncle Jack went shopping on Oxford St mate ... Shearer, Sutton, Batty, Sherwood, Le Saux and co ... pretty sure that was the most expensively assembled team/squad in the league that season ... you'd need to go back to the Brian Clough era to fund a real comparative... then probably the Villa side under Saunders/ Barton ... Yes I am THAT old
Shearer was a British record signing back then if I’m not mistaken. it was like someone signing peak Harry Kane maybe this comparison might help these pesky kids get some perspective
So you've found one article that claims they didn't buy it... an article that acknowledges that every other ****er thought they did ... cutting through the journalistic blah blah you'll note that incumbent Champions Manchester United spent more ... no surprise there and the title was decided in the last day ... but the rest of the article has a heavy political licence ... Blackburn buying Shearer was the equivalent of Brentford going out and buying Harry Kane (I.e the top English striker) for next season ... in fact, given Shearer's standing in the game at the time, it was more like Brentford signing Haaland!!
