I’m not really having one mate I just said it to make Stockholm jealous thankless task having the barbie ok going to someone else’s
I’m in Florida thank ****, can think of owt worse than celebrating a privileged entitled family like the Royals, while millions are struggling with fuel poverty.
Yes Thursday is the Humber flotilla night, and then followed by the lighting of beacons at 9,45 (I think. I’ll check details, but sure both are the Thursday)
Here you go @Stockholm Tiger The main event (IMHO) is the Thursday evening https://platinumjubilee.gov.uk/event/humber-platinum-jubilee-flotilla/ You can search by area and date etc. for other events here https://platinumjubilee.gov.uk/events/
Did someone mention privileged? If you live in the UK, you're wealthier than over 90% of the other people on the planet, by a pure accident of birth. Any additional income from taking the opportunities and working hard, just moves you further up.
Get to ****, if your comparing me to a set of ****s lording it over us with millions of acres of stolen land, who have never had to do one days work in their ****ing lives, then yes I’m really privileged and entitled.
It's all relative. We're all wealthy based purely on an accident of birth. I certainly wouldn't want to be them.
Tell that to the queue of people waiting in the food bank queue on Beverley Road this morning, or Elsie travelling on the bus all day so she doesn’t have to put her heating on, this countries ****ed when you have Royals in massive empty palaces paying off their Nonce son £12m so he doesn’t go to court. **** the Royals and **** the ****e celebrations, millions more pounds wasted.
The people in the foodbank, and Elsie are still wealthier than over 90% of the people on this planet, and if you've worked hard and taken your opportunities, you are even higher up the scale. To the bulk of the people on the planet, you live like Royalty due to an accident of birth. You may not like that, but the facts don't care about your feelings.
And you can nearly guarantee that those 90% live in countries run by corrupt governments, China, Russia, most of Africa, etc. so its down to ****s like the Royals and Johnson all over the World crushing the natives with their power. Like I say **** the Royals, get rid of the lot.
And when the Mountbatten-Windsors have ****ed off and taken their private wealth with them, how are we going the fill the role of Head of State? Elections? President Blair? President Major? President Lineker? President Adele? They’ll presumably use the now empty Buckingham Palace and Palace of Holyrood House, which will still need to be maintained and staffed. They’ll need private security, travel, staff to manage the Office of the Presidency. All of these costs are where the majority of the Civil List monies go, so no money is saved by getting rid of the Royals. In fact, the U.K. loses tourist money, so financially worse off. don’t get me wrong, I think there is a strong case to be made that a modern, forward looking democracy is not compatible with a hereditary monarchy as its Head of State, and Commonwealth countries like Australia have been having that debate for some time. However, I’ve not seen a workable proposal yet for the U.K. that is overall better than what we have, so I’d say keep it until we do. And if/when we do, let’s at least do it because we have a well considered plan to move forward, and not because of a populist movement that says **** the Rich but inadvertently lands us with bigger problems than the ones we had before.
Some fair points. For me it's not though about '**** the rich' at all. It's the subserviency that no longer fits (as you say with a forward looking democracy), and it certainly won't fit once the Queen passes - who on earth would seriously 'bow' to Charles or any of the others?! But as you say, how to replace it. I have a feeling that those questions might have to be answered sooner than some think.
You're not bowing or subservient to 'him' or 'her', it's just a mark of respect to the position they hold and the history of it, that played its part (warts and all) in the Country we are.
Last word on the matter, watching 73 year old Prince Charles who still calls his mother Mummy, ffs, prob still getting breast fed by HM, sat on a gold throne dressed like a North Korean General, never fired a shot in anger, apart from at the Grouse shoot, next to a priceless crown, which had its own limo and butler, spouting the Govs, levelling up speech, while kids are in poverty, is enough for me to get rid. And if your happy with that, tug your forelock a bit more and bow and scrape a bit lower, because they are laughing at you.
Does Charlie still ask his valet to put toothpaste on the brush for him? Or nonce Andy ask his PA to open his curtains for him. Strange bunch of people in an archaic institution that has little practical relevance in the 21st century. As you might have figured, I'm defo in the Republic camp, but if people want to support them that's there right.
