Eddie kept Bournemouth up for a few seasons. I don’t know… Do you think if we keep Ralph and spend no money we will stay up? I think it’s obvious we need to spend some serious cash. But if we spend cash do we keep Ralph, on the premise that with some funding he will do good work? Or switch up given his inability to progress over 3 seasons? I changed my vote but just don’t know the answer. Are we sticking with him in spite of the stats because we want him to succeed so much? Klop of the Alps…
Interesting discussion on the total saints podcast re our coaches. Lots of stuff I didnt realise about our coaching setup mostly all bad and confirmation of what I had already thought. Starts around 28mins https://podfollow.com/1268769885/episode/0e376411a35e20795f9891eab6d3096e6dc16c6e/view
Anything in particular that stands out that you can tell us lazy folk, @SaintinNZ ? Will give it a listen fully later.
You've already said "This summer going to be practically the same as Gao levels of spending." How do you come to that conclusion? Have you got insider information?
Basically that we don't have much experience or talent in the assistant departments. Dave Watson, after running our GK's into the ground is now apparently our setpiece coach. Maybe that explains why we don't score from them and can't defend them and still using Salisu to lob floaters into the middle distance. Kitzbichler is a bit of an unknown but primarily a video analysis guy, Danny Rohl was a huge loss as he has gone on to show with the move to germany and apparently now the national team. So out of 4 coaches we've got Kelvin - ex GK, Dave Watson - ex GK coach and Andrew Sparkes - current GK coach. It kinda sorta makes you wonder if that's why we can't attack of defend very well.
Another really surprising/unbelievable thing is that apparently we haven't been playing AArma because he's no use at defending set pieces. Apprently RH has been quoted as saying that Watson wouldn't be best pleased with him if he selected 2 strikers under 6 foot. Erm, I'm sorta struggling to believe that. First, he was that height when we signed him, second he shouldn't need to defend corners, third RH shouldn't be thinking about strikers defending corners.
Yep they talk with knowledge. Listen every game & it provides IMO a little more insight than just guessing. They are not very complementary of RH, players & set up; remain optimistic but not too hopeful.
Spot on review all of which dumbfounded me & wondering why RH has allowed to happen. Another point DanS made was that they are just employed staff, don’t have period contracts & suggested they should all be let go.
Thanks! That's bonkers if true. Why the hell hasn't Ralph got a proper assistant coach?! The whole Dave Watson thing would explain why Prowsie is trying to aim every in-swinging corner under the bloody crossbar. Obviously Watson has said that's what goalkeepers hate the most. Unfortunately it's been fairly ineffective.
This is what I meant to post. RB Liepzig had considerable success along with big investment with Ralph in charge. Worth noting Ralf Rangnick was sporting director there may well have been a stronger coaching set up at RB. Comments have been made questioning our backroom team and the need for improvement I go along with that whilst keeping Ralph. http://www.fussballstadt.com/rb-leipzig-potential-problems-financial-fair-play/
Tbf that doesn’t necessarily mean we will be spending lots. We were very busy last summer and arguably got worse and didn’t spend much (not sure what the net total was)
Just checked on transfer market. We brought in 6 first team squad players (Broja, Lyanco, Livramento, A Armstrong, Perraud, Walcott) and you can add Simeu as well if you like. Which I would consider busy. We still made a net profit of roughly £15m overall
