Milton Harris introduces a beautifully-bred Walk In The Park gelding in the Plumpton bumper - El Muchacho.

They haven’t had him long as they only picked him up at the Cheltenham sale on April 22nd (50k)

His bumper winner yesterday was also picked up from a Cheltenham sale for 50k. That one was the festival sale and it’s won two bumpers now.

The man knows what he’s doing! A rarity in British jumps racing at present.

Interesting Derby trial at Leopardstown this afternoon and the value in the field has to be Atomic Jones at around 10/1. The Ger Lyons trained son of Wootton Bassett beat Stone Age over a mile back in September and the dam side of his pedigree ought to give him the stamina for this.

Rank outsider Rich Strike won the Kentucky Derby yesterday evening. Breaking from the outside 21 stall (red and white silks) he was plum last early in the race but came with a late withering run to become the longest-priced winner since 1913 at a whopping 80-1.

Unbelievable that race, Oddy, jockey rode an extraordinary, and in the end brilliant, race on Rich Strike (the aerial view showed it best of all). Just one sour note for me, the words of the Kentucky governor were absolute crap, the only one to give a lousy interview after the race. Owner, trainer, jockey, all made sensible comments after the race. Typical politician, spouting-off about subjects he knows ****-all about? He's not the only one though, lots of them around!.

Again, a most extraordinary race, a real thriller! <ok>

17:00 Plumpton - Hoot At Midnight

(Returns from much-needed break after busy schedule before given a rest. This Midnight Legend mare could go well in this Class-5 Handicap Chase for the Charlie Longsdon stable. Sam Twiston-Davies on board for the Longsdon yard. 8/1 still available with Wm.Hill, but 7/1 would be a more realistic price at time of writing)

Just noticed that ITV4 are showing all of the Hamilton meeting this evening. Will watch this, or at least some of it.
One I like in the 18;18 race is the top weight Emaraty Hero for the Grant Tuer yard. Could go well in this event.

Red hood and tongue tie on debut. Not sure 50k was well spent on that one!

Having spent an hour trawling through the videos of the trial races, to come up with Epicenter (that ended up favourite), I cannot say that I was at all happy to see my bet lose in the last fifty yards.

The winner was one of the 30/1 outsiders on the Morning Line and clearly attracted no money on the track given that it only got in the field as a reserve.

My Sunday beer money was in my pocket with ten yards to go!

Safe to say the race completely fell apart after the crazy early pace. Be interesting to see how the winner fares in the Preakness (I assume that is where they will go). I guess he will stay OK.

You might be right. I spent an hour on the Kentucky Derby website watching the trial races and assessing the form to see the race run totally differently – but that is racing.

As it was, I think that the winner was a fluke, so I would not want to back it for the Triple Crown. Also, I can see the fairytale here that may end up being a Hollywood movie that stops with the improbable win.

Last 2 furlongs looked like a bumper at Kelso in midwinter. Some of the so called best horses were almost walking. You could say the winning jockey was the only one to judge the pace properly or more likely the horse decided he couldn't go that fast.

If this was Cheltenham most of the jocks would get 2 day holidays.
