George is also saying temperature is a big factor here and it’s helping get their tyres warmed up better which is helping.
Is the new Miami circuit very smooth and flat compared to the older circuit? Haven’t seen any of the practices but with people saying the cars aren't bouncing as much is it the fact the track is a stable surface the ground effect works a lot better. We’ve seen the Merc bouncing terribly on the straights already this season, this track as 2 long straight but the effect people are saying is far less pronounced?
Both Merc and Ferrari do seem to be bouncing less but it's still there. The drivers are saying that the track is a bit bumpy and so slippy if you go off line that this could be a long procession of a race! Merc have new wings front and rear plus it's a low down force track so maybe it's just that the wing down force isn't pushing the ride height down too low so the bouncing isn't that bad or the new wings are helping? It might get interesting in quali when they all turn their PU's up! I think Charles has some new bits on his 2nd PU of the season!
yeah, I think it was resurfaced especially for the race and no public roads are used. The old one went around the bay area and was a bit rough, first I knew of it was when I came across some of the kerbing when I was wandering around when I was living there in '93.
Were Merc doing long runs today as they finished 1.5 seconds slower in final practice just now than Red Bull who finished top, and even Red Bull with Perez didn’t get below 1.30 like George did yesterday?
Who knows. They are talking about temperature and wind conditions so did Mercedes do absolutely no low fuel runs? It's going to be a big old quali
Still expect it to be between Leclerc and Verstappen for pole for some reason. Perez and Sainz could surprise and I think Merc will be 5 & 6, hopefully higher
Pretty soon the question of whether McLaren should drop Ricciardo is going to have to start being asked seriously.
