I'm at a wedding today and one my wife's cousins, who's here too, is Head of Marketing (or some such) at Rangers. I obviously took the first opportunity I could to quiz him about goings on at the club and he basically said that the WLS article was spot on.
l tend to think any manager thinking of going to the club will baulk first, knowing we have a DoF in place. Therefore, any manager who may be headstrong with his own plan, will go elsewhere. We’ll only get the meek and the weak. Hope l’m wrong to all extent.
Sorry Diddly, but you are way out of date. Every single PL team has a Director of Football/Sporting Director equivalent, and the last one not to was Arsenal under Wenger, the last of the dinosaur ‘I control everything’ managers. Any manager/coach not prepared to work within this system will never coach at the top level, as things stand. Not that the role of Director of Football has been explained clearly to fans and it does vary from club to club, leading to views like yours. If you want to see it work look at Liverpool.
Ferdinand and Ramsay want to call the shots but take no responsibility for subsequent failures. Seems our football-unworldly owners have bought into this. According to them, F and R must never be held accountable.
I'd say the DoF should call the shots in broad terms. Warburton wasn't sticking to the script regarding player development, but Ferdinand was obviously happy to go along with it while results were favourable. Our form since January would have seen any manager sacked.
Interesting that Kevin Gallen supported Warburton, in that if the academy wasn't producing players of sufficient quality, the manager was forced to look farther afield.
l agree to say that my views are probably way out of date but a club like ours, with such limited funds, l just don’t think it’s relevant.
Gutted to read that (in just a few months) it seems our club has reverted to form and become a 5hitshow. Even if just some of the rumours sifting around are true, it seems we have shown an appalling lack of care and professionalism in the manner we have treated our players and our former manager.
He can do better than them, a true basket case of a club, sadly, ownership a real mess, stadium falling to pieces.
