It was always going to fail. Ppl switch on the TV in the morning and will choose between BBC, Sky and ITV for the morning's current affairs. The first two are pure news, GMB has a different format so when he started spouting **** it became entertainment. He rode off the back of "ppl want to watch morning tv" + "itv offering something different". He needed both to succeed. And there's no desire for anyone to be watching Talk fcking TV at whatever God forsaken time he's on. I honestly cannot believe no one thought it through before hiring him. Ah well probably gets the TalkTV brand out there but that's about it.
I've seen it mentioned in regards to both Talk TV and Gregorian Blacmange News: the point isn't for them to succeed, the point is for them to give credibility to turds like Darren Grimes, Dan Woottoonn, Isabel Oakeshite and Tom Harwood so that when they appear on the BBC, Sky etc they do so as "credible" journalists because the chyron says they're from a TV network, as opposed to grotty little reporters whose careers all have the exact same logical endpoint
While it's not the pinnacle of GdT's films, I did like the recent version - but that "liked" comes with a "but...", as the second half of the film reduces a large chunk of the cast to set decoration at best or just has them vanish into thin air at worst, and the thing is the plot of the second half of the film isn't as interesting and does feel like it drags
It seemed plastic the second half. I didn't know there was an original tbh. But just watching that clip I realised why I didn't like the new one. Couldn't put my finger on it before, but it was Bradley - he was massively miscast. Pan's Labyrinth for GdT's best imo. I think I'll check out the original
The thing with del Toro's version is that on the one hand it aims to follow the original book, which Ron Perlman recommended to him due to it being one of his favourites, yet at the same time it was copying the aesthetic of the original film as I remember on Twitter people doing side-by-side comparisons of shots from the two films, which makes it feel like GdT preferred the first half of the film as he could get his teeth into the aesthetic, while the second did have a bit of a generic noir look I thought Bradley Cooper was fine in it, but he can be very hit and miss, for example he was really good in Silver Linings Playbook and The Place Beyond The Pines, but he was pretty poor in American Hustle (although I think the script was at fault there, considering it didn't serve Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence or Amy Adams that well either) - on the other hand I thought Cate Blanchett was the issue in the second half of the film because she played it like any 40s femme fatale and the lack of subtlety in her performance telegraphed the twist a good 30 minutes in advance Curious to see GdT's take on Pinocchio
So some significant losses for the Tories, most notably Wandsworth and Westminster which is good news. But how ****ing dense are the populations of Hartlepool and Sunderland? No doubt these will be the 'Tory successes' trumpeted by BBC News...
Says it all that, when I put on Ceefax this morning (or whatever the BBC call it) the main UK headline was Bristol deciding they don't want an elected mayor The local elections were stuffed away in UK news
Gee, I don't know Kevin, why is it that Tory-run councils have the coffers opened to them to maintain services while Labour-led ones have the exact opposite?
I wondered why some random bloke appeared to have his **** amplified on Twitter. His profile picture is this, however: please log in to view this image No idea who the woman is, but...
People in councils starting with the letter W seem to be sensible. Conservatives have lost Wandsworth, Westminster, West Oxfordshire, Wokingham and Worthing and probably Woking too. Walsall a Con hold though.
My ward of Wallington (L B Sutton) also held by Lib Dems...although the overall no of tory seats in the borough increased by 1 at their expense. **** alone knows why?
Of course, Murdoch's Hate Comic is on top of the real story: claiming victory over The FA in keeping Three Lions on the England songsheet...even though The FA never planned to take it off But let's not talk about how it's mutated into a tribalism war song since 2018, eh...
Tories whole message today is to talk about Labour. Tbf to most commentators on all news channels, they're telling the likes of Dowden "you're the tory party chairman and we got you on here to talk about the tory's results not labour's". Btw why is it that people can't see the difference between how ppl vote in council elections and parliamentary elections The only common factor you can be assured of is that ppl are moving away from Tory corruption and mendacity. Now... the argument that not enough are moving to Labour but Libdems instead. That's bcos ppl vote for Libdems at a local level based on confidence in them to manage councils. The point is a simple one. If ppl honestly believe this isn't going to benefit Labour in the next GE, here's a simple question - do you honestly think the huge numbers moving away from Conservatives will be voting Libdems in a GE?? If you do, you clearly haven't got a fcking clue how GE works.
People will vote Lib Dem in this, as there's no overall winner. The two party system doesn't matter. They won't risk it in as large numbers in an election, especially if they're ****ed off with the Tories. Nobody that pays the slightest bit of attention to politics doesn't know this. Pretending otherwise to the media (or as part of it) is just patronising and dishonest.
