They'll look on his telemetry, he was only in the zone for a short period under yellows so a lift shouldn't have cost him a lot.
McLaren were slow, but Jenson half a second more so than Lewis. Jensons Q3 lap was 0.3 quicker than Q2 yes, but everyone else times were 0.6/0.7 seconds faster. Which indicates that he lifted in sector 2. You could still end up faster from hooking up the other two sectors well.
With times improving with practically every lap of the weekend, the same would have applied during free practice when Hamilton set his time. Consistency should dictate that at least a reprimand is issued if it's his first offence of the season for doing this.
In free practice Hamilton was flat out with DRS open in the middle of a double waved yellow flags. Not really the same thing as this.
Was he not behind Massa when he crashed? I thought he said he had seen Massa go off? Could have imagined that one though! I am getting a bit brassed off with all the people who jumped on Hamilton, then are finding every way possible to excuse Jenson. I see no difference between the two incidents. Both drivers set their fastest laps of the session under double waved yellows with their sector times under yellow also being their quickest of the session.
But in a straight line. How did Jenson know what was around the corner when the last light was still flashing yellow?
Should be interesting, but in in Jenson's defense the crash only just happened in front of him and the light system before the crash didn't have time to activate it and it seems the one after completely got it wrong, as EJ was correct in saying it should of been green, not yellow, there has been a mix up on what each post is meant to look out for. It's human error, but the same thing happened to schumi at Monaco, so... Also if Jenson said he lifted, it means he noticed it and made the situation "safer"
You dont get punished for setting a quick lap. You get punished for not lifing in that sector. Which the times show Jenson did. Hamiltons incidend was not the same.
So a slight lift but continuing to travel at high speed is sufficient when an accident happens right in front of you?
Well did you expect him to put the rev limiter on? He slowed down to ensure there would be no accident then continued his lap (which miraculously was quicker than the 1.30 he had set before) One lift passing a crash doesn't always have to lose a full second.
How can you prove the lift when you are constantly on and off the throttle in a sequence of corners? I'd imagine they'd be looking at his telemetry to see when the 'lift' was.
Gutted for Jenson, after this morning thought he could be on front row. I think it would be really unfair to penalise him for the incident as he was in the yellow area while the yellows were being waved and he lifted.
