I agree that’s why I’d prefer to see us utilise where we are strong in player numbers and experience. I agree with your other post about keeping Firpo at LB if we went down. I’d use Drameh RB and even with Cresswell or Struijk in the middle of a back three, Cooper and Ayling for their experience would be invaluable either side

Hopefully we could pull off a John Swift type signing but Forshaw and Klich would become useful at the back. The big question mark would be could we keep Bamford, James and Harrison, if we could we’d come straight back up

When we have Drameh coming back and the chance to play with a back three, Ayling to the right of that would be invaluable for his experience and drifting out right when Drameh got caught forward

4-4-2 then I agree no to Ayling at CB but 5-2-3 I’d throw him in there. I hope we keep Summerville too as Drameh and Summerville with their U23 understanding of each other, they would be awesome down the right.

I wouldn't blame Gelhardt if he left in the Summer. IMO Bielsa treated him appallingly. With all the injuries we've had this Season, Joffy has less game time than Bamford!!!!

Assuming we stay up, but lose Meslier, Phillips and Raphinha, how much do we need to spend in the Summer?

Sorry Gessa as I've picked your quote out regarding totally overalling the squad when it's something I've been reading all season from many posters and on various forums.

My view is the exact opposite and even more so if we get relegated. Our players have now had 2 years of PL experience playing against better/faster players and most of them have handled the step up and improved. Dropping back to the championship should make them among the better players in that division and I'd fully expect them to be challenging at the top of the League from the get go. Plus we've enough youth coming through to freshen things up and as there's 46 games the opportunites would be there for them.

If we undertook a total overall as many are suggesting, we'd have to be certain we sign the right players as we'd only get one shot at it.

My team is just who we currently have and I think Cresswell is a left footer so wouldn’t play RCB or I’d have had Ayling, Cresswell, Cooper and Struijk as the back 4.

Think he’d do well as CB in the championship as he’s getting older but probably still be decent as a RB in the championship. Plus it’ll be Ayling or Drameh at RB, we won’t have both and bench one as Drameh went to play first team football over the bench this year. Cooper has to start CB if we go to, this season has shown how integral to the back line he is.

My philosophy as always been slowly, slowly wins the race, add 3 quality additions in the summer and 1 more if needed in the winter, imo, we did neither this season, so are playing catch up, if we do stay up I honestly think we need to strenghten in 5 positions, that's without Raph and Phillips going, that is a lot to introduce in one go so it would be a squad game initially, then introduce one at a time. If we go down then I see 6 or 7 of the first team squad leaving, so will need replacing plus we're already a few players short as it is, so either way, I think there will be a lot of movement in the close season

    yup.

they got hammered behind closed doors by our first team (though I think joffy played for the first team)

For me the model is you get them good enough to play for you… or someone else. Look at Chelsea. They need to win their last match to avoid relegation from the 23s league. Their good 23s are earning loan fees on the road. What’s Conor Gallagher worth?

We have a couple in the champ but most are in league 1 or 2… or lower leagues abroad and not pulling up trees.

Relegated clubs in the past have managed to hold their squads together and won back promotion at first attempt, Newcastle being the perfect example. It requires an owner to hold his nerve though and bankroll the season. The perfect way to do it wrong was when new were relegated in Risdales era. If he'd held his nerve and sorted finances other than the way he did, our relegated squad would have walked promotion and the last 16 years needn't have happened. Hopefully Radz has big balls if needed if it comes to the choice

Don't know why there would be such a void in the 2 prices, Norwich still got the same figure for Buendia, if a club want them, they'll pay the market value or **** off.

Think you may have to sell Robert's Matt, as you would a bungalow, being he has nothing up top.

Agree - unless there's a release clause, I think price is set more by leverage... which is generally length of contract. Caveat to that is if the player really wants the move, you might take less to offload and remove an unwanted dressing room presence.

If a fan had thrown a flare at the players, he or she would have been banned for life if caught(well a Leeds Utd supporter)and the club fined. Players aren't above the law. As for collymore, his opinions aren't relavant and he just does it to get a reaction. If I could legally shoot someone, he'd be top of my list. Nasty horrible twat who shouldn't even be working after all his misdemeanors. I'm surprised the me too movement haven't paid him a visit.<grr>

ignoring the relegation column, kp and raph figs are a bit on the high side in my view but main talking points here for me are:
    40m for Meslier?
    10 for Harrison?
    8 for paddy?

I like Meslier but you're still buying potential, he's not currently one of the best keepers in the league... hard to pick his ceiling for me but i think his hit and miss distribution might ward off top clubs.

Not all the fans like him, but we'd get plenty more than that for Jack in my view.

Paddy's still only 28 and a proven premiership goalscorer. Injury record restricts his price a bit but i think we'd get considerably more than 8m

Depends on whether the player wants to stay, and we have the added problem of a World Cup year, and the financial situation of the relegated club.
