The media hates us and is biased - Arsenal fans following AGM blog

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Hoddle is a god, Oct 28, 2011.

  1. I have to laugh at some of the comments following this blog on the BBC Football website:-

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/mattslater/2011/10/arsenal_agm.html

One of the posters even claims that we have spent way beyond our means over the past 5 years <doh>

If the writer of that blog had written his article on the Arsenal board on this site, he would have been branded a wum and banned from posting future comments.

It also betrays the arrogance of Gooners, that 4th is not something that the team should be aiming for, as though they truly believe that they are better than City, United or Chelsea, let alone us, 'Pool, the Toon, or even the likes of Sunderland and Everton. Without RvP they are a very ordinary team, indeed.

The one comment that made me smile in the blog, was the report of the question put to the Arsenal board that included a statement that "Spurs have a better squad than Arsenal" <laugh> That admission will really irk all of the delusional idiots who post over here!

Not sure what your objection to the blog is?

Seems fair to me. It is about Arsenal, so their fans are most likely to comment, and they are going to be biased. But the blog seemed even handed to me.

  3. Huh?

Not only do I have absolutely no objection to the blog, I never said that I did! In fact, I love the blog!

It's the Arsenal fans themselves who are completely up in arms about it and (as I say in my post) that is what made me laugh.

I'm seeing these "the media hate us" comments more frequently, from both Arsenal and 'Pool fans, now that they have fallen outside the top 4. The main complaint seems to centre on the fact that journos are no longer replete with plaudits for these two teams, and instead are raising serious (but entirely fair) questions about the ambitions of the two clubs. It betrays in the fans the kind of intense arrogance that I absolutely despise.

I truly hope that we, as fans, never become this arrogant, in the event that we manage to cement our place as a top 4 side.

Aah I see. You were too subtle for me. Didn't appreciate that the "Media Hates us" was written as if from a gooner. Understand now, all taken back.

The thing that makes me laugh about it is that the Arsenal fans claiming that the media are out to get them are parroting the same objections that they're objecting to!
"How dare they call us ****?", to, "Why are we so ****?", in the space of a single breath, without any alarm bells going off.

    Absolutely! It's a right hoot, isn't it!

The fact is that this attitude (of both the Gooners and the Mickey Mousers) springs from an underlying arrogance that they deserve to be in the top 4 each and every season, when clearly that is absurd, when there are teams such as QPR, Sunderland, Newcastle, Stoke and us all investing money in our respective clubs - not just in players, but in training facilities and PR, too. The playing field has narrowed for both Arsenal and Liverpool, and neither of those two clubs is a dead-cert top 4 club, now. The sooner their respective fans accept that, the easier their lives will become, in the long run.

And, say what you will about City's endless billions and their ability to buy glory at any cost, but their being in the EPL has been a great leveler for all other clubs, because no longer can Chelsea, United and (to a lesser extent) Arsenal be guaranteed to be able to buy the best players and pay them the best salaries to bride them to stay at their clubs for 6-8 seasons, because City is always there in the background to trump them! RvP is currently entering into salary negotiations, and most of the Gooners are creaming their pants thinking that he's going to sign another contract. Okay, so they may well be proved correct, but it could equally mean that RvP means to put in a transfer request to leave for City in January, and wants to give Arsenal the chance to double his current salary (which they cannot afford to do).

I'm really loving watching the 'Pool and Gooner fan-bases fall apart <laugh>

At last Wenger's masterplan has worked! He has created Millwall without the singing, fighting or commitment! <ok>

Nous sommes l'Arsenal! Personne ne nous aime, on s'en fout <laugh>

I also enjoyed the article. But I felt compelled to reply to one point:

"#12 "the sort of cash splashed by...Spurs"

You mean like spending a total of 13 million for Parker and Van der Vaart while selling Crouch and Palacios for 15-20 million? Or getting Adebayor on loan while Real pays a big chunk of his wages?"

Not to blow my own horn or spam...

A lot of that is down to Damien Comolli, currently at Liverpool, Lidls.
He bought some good players in, but often overpaid and brought square pegs for round holes.
I'd suggest that he's done the same thing this summer.

Redknapp's reputation seems wrong to me, frankly.
Some of his buys are going to miss the target, but Pompey should've been raking it in.
They sold players like Yakubu, Muntari, Johnson and Diarra for massive mark ups.
The latter pair were moved on for about £28m of profit, for example.

I would think that that is because we have a very smart Chairman, who sometimes has to keep Harry on a tight leash.

Poor attempt at deflecting from the truth Ensil :p

You are being held back by poor fiscal management! It is of little surprise that your club needs government hand outs in order to purchase/build a half decent stadium in your eternal attempt to "keep up with the Joneses". :)

That's pretty rich coming from a club that also has a Gvt sponsored stadium. Emirates Air being 100% owned by the Dubai Gvt. <laugh>

  20. I wondered how long it would be before a Gooner barged his way into the argument. Not surprising that it's the transvestite "Mrs" C who has blinked first.

Just so that you know, we are talking about you, not to you <ok>
