He definitely doesn't. The criticism Greaves has come in for throughout the campaign from a wide range of fans has been substantially worse.

Even Fleming gets some weird criticism and he's been outstanding since coming into the side. He's been one of the top left backs in the division, he's been that good. I think he's been in 3/4 team of the weeks and a team of the month

I guess expectation, which is why some are pointing out that he maybe isn’t as good as they think. He is good, a very good footballer, but he’s a long way off the likes of Bowen, McNeil, Smith-Rowe and Saka.

We know what he is capable of and we’ve seen KLP blow teams away. But he will come in for criticism if he doesn’t do that every week because that’s him not reaching his own (perhaps unfairly) high standards.

We all know he will be gone in the summer.
To ease the pain of that people are just convincing themselves that maybe he isn’t that good.
I did the same prior to Hudds leaving I picked out his faults made it easier.
But the calling each other ****s for having differing opinions is school yard stuff.

My point was just that him being our best attacking player, then why is it him that comes in for the most ****?

    That's all.

Clearly, other managers/coaches see potential in KLP, these people know a lot more about the game than most of us. To get an U21's plus a host of other managers and scouts watching him, certainly shows they see a player in there.

Young players develop at different rates, I guess TWT whether he turns into a regular EPL player, but if someone does come in with a good bid, then I would probably take it, as you just never know how things will turn out if he stayed.

I understand people aren't saying that he's useless or that he'll never succeed, but I still think the language being used is over the top when talking about his attitude, and I think it seems like he's being held to a higher standard than than anyone else. He's been compared to Grosicki, Wilks and Ben Arfa in this thread, all of which I think are ridiculously over the top. KLP sometimes looks annoyed when he's messed something up or we're losing, but on the other hand he covers a lot of ground and works hard for the team, which a lot of attacking players fail to do. He plays wing back if he's asked to, does it well and doesn't complain. He doesn't ignore teammates in an obviously better position because he'd rather score himself, like Wilks does. Someone mentioned Eaves as an example of a player with a better attitude, but I think if you applied the same scrutiny KLP is getting to Eaves as well, then surely his lack of application to work on making less stupid fouls means he has a bad attitude too. Hernandez was mentioned on here the other day and I think Sterling was one who said he'd love him back. Hernandez had a really crap work ethic and attitude but most people loved him because he could finish. If that's the standard, KLP is an absolute model pro.

A few people keep saying that him being homegrown shouldn't mean we don't question his attitude. My argument is that he doesn't even have a particularly bad attitude, and the fact he's home grown just makes it a bit more of a shame that he's so harshly scrutinised.

I’ve always read the frustration he shows if something doesn’t work out as aimed at himself. I have only seen him live once in the last 7 months but that was still the case on Saturday.

.. if you talk 'value for money' then yes - they have fallen way short of the mark.
However, taking the ability of our overpaid squad in isolation, very few of our fans expected better to be honest - in fact some had us down for relegation, blaming previous regimes for 'wasting money on 5h!t players', 'selling the family silver', etc etc with what has been called a 'scattergun' approach to player recruitment.
It's only recently (5 or 6 games) that we have stabilised and started to look rather good - far too late to bother the playoffs - and it's only a few weeks ago we were mathematically safe.
We have been fortunate that Weimann has been scoring lots of goals - more than ever before. In fact, scoring goals has been (unusually for Bristol City) a breeze! Our handicap has been leaking goals at the other end - as I said earlier; particularly after the 80 minute mark. Sky Sports have labelled us as the team who have dropped more points from winning positions than any other in the professional game - extremely frustrating!
IF Weimann can keep scoring next season (bearing in mind that he is in his 30s and has just had his biggest ever tally) AND Martin can keep going (in his 30s too) AND we can keep the circling vultures away from Semenyo then we will score goals next season too.
Opinions differ around WHY we have been leaking goals - some blame the midfield, some the defence and some NPs tactics (certainly early in the season) of trying to sit on a 1 goal lead and soak up the pressure - so often our undoing), but IF we can sort this then we MIGHT be fighting at the right end of the table - but then there is FFP..........
Too many IFs, BUTs and MAYBE's to be confident at this time. We really need to shift Wells and Palmer to free up the wages - but hey - you guys want a striker in his 30s? Wells could be the perfect signing for you.....

I think we would have gone down without klp this season. He's handled that pressure ok.
I hope he is still at the club next season

Personally you know I’ve always thought KLP a fantastically balanced natural footballer with skills that most others could never have - my one and only gripe is that at times he doesn’t bust a gut to get into places to receive the ball . I have a pal ex pro who says it depends what he’s been told to do or not do and what area to work in! Totally restrictive in my opinion but teams have to have shape maybe that’s why? HT do you know based on your experience

we only get results with 5 defenders on the pitch and 2 holding midfielders that’s going to restrict any forward in a side. Then you add the creativity issue and it becomes a reliance on scoring from 1/2 good chances a game which is sustainable at one end of the table not the other.

Depends what we would have done with the money I guess (but agree with what was meant). I hope he stays, and we build around him, Fleming, Greaves.
Really odd this ott dissecting on here of KLP.

This is exactly right, we only seem to get results when we have 7 defensive-minded players on the pitch. This is why we need the quality of the midfield improving, as the service to the front is generally poor. Nigel Pearson was spot on about his criticism of Shota, he totally misjudged how BC played. The good thing is that Shota realised that.

Absolutely. I'm not having a pop at KLP. They are all as bad as each other when it comes to passing. Anyone know who has the best passing stats?

It's actually Moncur, but of the players who are regularly playing, I think Slater and Jones are top (Eaves is by far the worst).
