It's in the highway code mate. They can cycle next to each other when cycling in single file would mean the driver has to cross lanes to overtake. Btw I think it's fcking stupid too.
Yeah, we're over run with them around here, especially the weekend, I ride occasionally with the lad and always stay in single file. I actually don't mind when they ride 2 abreast, probably safer but when it's a club and they're all over the road, it does cause big issues.

Awesome creatures. I saw one years back on a holiday in Florida iirc. You can approach them but you have to bow to them and keep eye contact as you rise. If they then bow to you while shaking their head at your feet, it means they've accepted your presence. Incredible experience. Oh and they make a machine gun noise with their bills that is terrifying.
