It soothes the pain when it actually does happen. As soon as Wickham came on on Sat I turned to my mate and said" there's their 2nd goalscorer"
At very least we need to get back to beating midtable and bottom end teams. If we can do that then we can get a bit of 3 or 4 game momentum going. Just that little bit of confidence returning might just energise what look like tired players into the playoffs. I'm not convinced it will happen mind, but considering this team had the quality for steady away 3rd for a large part of the season it is possible to at least scrape 6th. Wouldn't put a penny on it at present. Also think selling Flannigan was a disaster.
Bolton will get in the play offs and win them. Remind me very much of Charlton in the second half the season that they went up.
See this is the thing. We need to go on a decent run to get into the play offs. If we do get there we might actually be playing with some confidence. Tgats often a lot more important than anything else in the play offs. Obviously that’s a hypothetical assessment not a prediction or expectation!!
After fouling 4 players and having 2 red card offences laughed off as him being a “big tough lad” with no ref retribution?
I've said it before on this thread and I still think that we will sneak a play off spot and go up However it might be tighter than I thought
I didn't reply because it was obviously a WUM thread by the now conveniently vanished OP ... ... thankfully the manager and players didn't give up as easily.
Well there are 4 of us in the play offs. So is that a 25% chance of it being us? Two of the 4 are ahead of us in the league finishing positions. The implication being they are better than us, one just missed out on automatic promotion. There is one sihthouse team below us, so we are better than them? We tend to lose to physical teams that out muscle us. We are a good footballing team and when we are on our game pass the ball well. Unfortunately we may have one of our only two strikers injured and due to crap recruitment, no obvious replacement I have not looked at the betting odds, but if we are favourites, I reckon its cos an awful lot of our supporters have put money on us rather than our actual realistic odds. We are stuck with the 1st leg at home 2nd leg away...usually considered a disadvantage. So we have been favorites in the play offs to go up before, being the underdogs may help this time and we have got over the Wembley jinx. HTL
I didn't think we'd make the raffle, so who knows now? You could see improvements mind, and all those late goals say the mentality is much stronger than it was. Play offs are about attitude and bottle as much as ability IMO, so I think if we get past Wednesday, we will win at Wembley. They are used to digging themselves out of holes, Neil has done this before, ( so has Embleton!), and it's got to be our bloody turn. But I'm the worst tipster here or anywhere else!
No worse than anyone else who wants to see us get out of this bloody league mate. IMO the playoffs are part playing the best football and part luck, especially if penalities are involved. Here's hoping that we have both on our side
I think you're right about the attitude being the key and we have plenty of it. The Wednesday players will remember that 5-0 thrashing from their last visit and an early goal could really shake them. Their supporters are blaming Covid for that result ... ... conveniently forgetting that we'd been hit by it ourselves.
