Do you think it’s an act though? He seems such a grounded lad off the field, has someone told him that’s the way he should carry on on the field and he is taking it to extremes?
I personally don't think it is, from all the reports ive seen and all the people I've spoken to, his on the field personality is really not doing him much good at all. I encourage anyone to spend a little bit of time at the next game ( if your there in person ) to watch him off the ball and when something goes wrong ( either his fault or others ) and you'll see it clear as day. The lads got talent and potential, but he's at a cross roads, does he become the next Bowen or the next Marcus Madison.
He is a very grounded lad off the field i do find it a shame how he sometimes acts on the pitch as it’s not a fair representation of him off it. But you can only go off what you see at the end of the day. Ive come across alot of young lads in the game currently and he’s one of the nicest lads, most people his age will vouch for that.
Sorry I agree that his attitude on the field reeks, I do watch him closely and see it every week. And it was at its worst yesterday, flapping his arms at others when he blootered two shots into the stands. But I don’t get the impression from interviews that that’s what he is like off the field - though I’ve never met him so I could be wrong.
On that I really hope he stays next season and can thrive with better players but it’s not a good look for him or the future if he’s going off the pitch like that as he’s usually one of the last off the pitch. Obviously there is context all of us aren’t aware of but it’s never a good look if the manager is trying to make you go across. Think he’d value another season with us surrounded by better players, no one can ever doubt his effort and endeavour just sometimes his demeanour. But ultimately anything around £15 million I’d take and go from there. Plenty of talent about and in the academy coming through who’d do a job for us and that money could balance the remainder of the side to stop the interdependence of the side on a 21 year old raw winger.
Sorry, I possibly didn't make myself clear, i don't know what he's like of the field and won't ever pretend to. When I said either Bowen or Madison, I ment one had potential and reached it by doing everything he could to make sure he made it and the other just believed he'd made it.
Scouts can only really go on what they see. If they see a player storm off after a 5 - 0 defeat when the gaffer and rest of the squad are walking over to the fans to appreciate their support, it leaves a sour taste. He might a nice lad in his personal life but they only see his attitude on the pitch, not how he is with friends, family etc.
If you look at it from Brentford’s perspective, £18 million for Brennan Johnson would be much better value for money than £12-£18 million for KLP.
Think about KPL he has no reason to be as petulant as he is. He’s not had a 20 goal season. He loses the ball as much as anyone. The lads got talent but like Howden said, If someone loses the ball or he does he needs to work his socks off to get into position or win it back. Like it’s been said he needs to watch Bowen when he was at Hull. Never moaned, worked like hell, tracked back and spent all his pre season getting stronger fitter.
He probably sees himself as top dog at the club because the club treats him like he is. He knows he’s un-droppable. He whinges and moans when things don’t go his way because on some level, he thinks he’s above a bottom-half Championship team, even if we are his hometown club. The only period he’s spent outside the starting XI in two years was last season when we were fart-arsing about regarding his contract. It’s a frustrating situation because we rely on him as our only attacking spark as there’s hardly anyone else to turn to, and the result is that he’s developed an ego too big for City to manage.
There is no way Johnson is available for £18m anymore. Add 50% to that now and double it if they see off Bournemouth (which I think they will do).

"Not that it is bad quality, just because of all that English bit that I haven't understood yet." This applies to Johnson and KLP both. He’s right as well. You could probably get a player just as good as Johnson or KLP, similar age from the Dutch or Belgian leagues for less than half the ridiculous 8 figures reported for Championship players. We’re touted to pay £2 million for Allahyar, and by this time next year, he could have more goals/assists than KLP or even Johnson.
Exactly, which is why I think we'll sell him and get somebody just as good for half of what we get for him.
That lad is a freak of nature physically. You pay £2 million for that alone. His ability to beat a man has really impressed me in the last 2 games. We don’t even have to look far for a replacement of KLP goes, he’s already here!
Yeah, and I’m slowly coming round to the idea of us not having KLP next season. Not because I don’t think he’d be a loss, but because I think his attitude may be more of an issue than it’s worth, especially if he doesn’t sign a new contract this summer. From what I’ve seen of Allahyar, he’s quick, positive, can beat a man, physically strong and works his bollocks off with no complaint. I’d be less anxious going into next season without KLP with Allahyar already here, never mind who we can sign with the money from KLP going.
I still don’t think we should cash-in on Greaves though. I think Greaves is arguably much harder to replace than KLP.
He’s the last id let go out the back line. People who know the game see his value sky rocketing over the next year, to sell him this summer for 7 figures would be very daft.
Sorry I don’t recall Bowen tracking back much at all , and he was constantly out of position defensively to help his defender too far Infield co stantly allowing the out ball - we’ve done it all season this year until Coyle played. He’s great now he was good then . As for KLP I think of it is the kid who hates losing attitude - but he forgets he can be part of the reason
