I’ve been thinking this for a while. Burnley, Leeds, and Everton all have enough games left to overtake us. 40 points may well not be enough this year. I might even be changing my vote!
We absolutely are safe imo. No way all 3 of Burnleh, Leeds and Everton get over 40 points. Doubt even two will.
Realistically I think Leeds need to get something either away to Arsenal or home to Chelsea. Given their horrendous GD, if they're still on 34 points with two games to play, I suspect they'll be on the brink. Everton have two chances to overtake Leeds if they do lose those two games - and both chances are very realistic chances for Everton. Yes Leeds' final two fixtures are nice, but if they are in the bottom three going into them, with Everton and Burnley both still having a game in hand on them, then you would not want to be in their shoes.
Completely agree. Each of them has the potential to get to 40, but they won’t all make it there. Leeds would need 41 with their GD
Lol absolutely. @tomw24 please take advice from that well known philosopher Ronan Keating. “You say it best, when you say nothing at all”
If this weekend has changed anything where we're concerned in relation to the relegation battle, it is that I suspect Ralph will want to shut down our game vs Brentford next weekend in the event that the score is level late on. Whereas yesterday it was Ely coming on at 1-1 on 80 mins, I think the same situation next weekend would see Lyanco or Valery. I can't see Ralph wanting us to take any risks whatsoever that we might go into the final day not yet mathematically safe. A bit like when Austin took the ball into the corner vs Bmouth a few years ago, rather than trying to win the game. We didn't really need the point to survive, but Ralph wanted it anyway just to be sure.
To even to be talked about being in the mix considering where we were in early March is worrying for next season, we started this season playing ok and gradually picked up the points that we deserved but since the Villa defeat we have played like a relegation team apart from a hard fought but possibly undeserved win against Arsenal.
