I actually took a bit of a rain check when I heard this. He was 54 and obviously didn’t look after himself.

A bit like me. I always said I don’t care when I died. But I’m 43 overweight. Have a drinking problem and can’t stop eating ****.

    It feels close to home.

Mrs and bairn were level 4 today and walked up to see them at half time and honestly thought I was about to have heart attack number 4 by the time I got back to my seat like. Never have to use my spray and had to today <laugh>

You should be okay. Apparently it was an infection that set in a few weeks after he caught his dick in his zipper. His family just said it was due to health problems associated with obesity to save embarrassment.

Yes. When I say I have a drinking problem I mean I know I drink more than the recommended amount. I don’t go out these days and I never ever get drunk. But I used too. But I’m not very healthy.

I have the same issue with stairs.

Thing is about 5 years ago I was fit as a fiddle. Could run non stop for 90 minutes.

Covid hasn’t been good for me as I stopped playing football (3 times a week) and I started eating more crap.

Its in my control I just don’t seem to have the energy to start losing weight.

If I could just get started.

That’s definitely too close to home then. I don’t have trousers with zips anymore.

    Far too dangerous.

Im slightly younger than you and very slim, but I drink way too ****ing much and it isn't healthy. Since new year I've made a concerted effort to drink less, and I've cut out a lot of the mid week drinking at home, but I still get smashed when I go out. Thankfully I live with my gf and she's in the same boat as me, and we're both trying to drink less.

My wife hardly drinks. I drink still on the weekends and never get drunk now. I’ve worked out how to control it.

If I drink white wine I water it down with fizzy water. So I end up drinking half the amount.

I rarely drink beer unless I go out and I’ve not been out for years.

My wife doesn’t drink. So that makes it easier.

I found the same thing when I stopped playing serious football. Was playing twice a week and training once a week. I found though that at 46 I was spending more time injured or aching and it was impacting on me doing much else. My weight didn't balloon immediately I stopped but I gradually got heavier over the years due to a serious chocolate addiction. I didn't really notice except my waist size went up from 32 to a tight 36. It wasn't until my Mrs started commenting on my weight I decided I needed to do something about it. So I divorced her!

No I started getting back in the gym and running on a treadmill and gradually got back into a fit lifestyle. At the start I also watched what I was eating and made sure I was running a calorie deficit, but not too high. I have gone down from a high of 98kg to around 83kg and now run 7km most days and have a personal trainer 3 times a week. I have even got back into 5-a-side once a week.

Its hard to do at first because it does require commitment and dedication but it's worth it. I feel so much better, my blood pressure has gone down, my back doesn't hurt any more as my core strength has improved dramatically. The running helps with my competitive side as well, as I can race against the clock. I try and do a mixture of shorter and longer runs to improve both speed and stamina.

I also now know what to do to control my weight. It does get harder as you get older so if I were you I wouldn't leave it too long. If you can afford a personal trainer get one as they can tailor a programme to your needs and most importantly make sure you are doing everything with the correct form. I don't lift big weights - its just stretching, core exercises, leg strength, balance and flexibility and some cardio.

The lack of energy is typical but if you have played sport you will still have the mentality to persevere once you get into it and will feel so much better as the weight drops. You only have to pick up a couple of 7.5kg weights (in my case) and walk around with them for a while to realise why you feel lethargic when you are overweight.

    Good luck with it.

Yes that is what I need to do. I always say I will start tomorrow and then it doesn’t. But I am making a start today.

Walking is my first go to: I’m packing 16.5 stone right now so I have to take small steps. Getting a calorie deficit will be easy because I’m probably chomping 3000 calories a day easy.

I used to lose weight like real easy. Once I start I can work on a net calorie of 1,500 a day (net after exercise) when my body needs around 2,200 so the weight drops off.

I just have to make that start. Which is today.

I’m 101kg and want to get to 85kg. I’m just too tired all the time to ever get started.

Losing weight is 75% diet, 25% exercise, and 100% effort.

I am not sure it is though. I think that exercise is a much bigger part of it.

No alcohol in 3 weeks with a reduced calorie intake and my weight has went down from 80kg to 74kg. No exercise whatsoever.
