Well disagree, Rush played off the shoulder of the last defender, and was a deadly finisher. Shearer would also play high up the pitch but was better in the air or with his back to goal. You say Carroll is a target man built to muscle his way to goal and get on crosses, problem is he is not doing that recently, you just describe what he used to do for Newcastle....
Rushie did far much more than just play off the shoulder of the last defender. When his legs couldn't take the 'going in where the boots were flying' he pulled wide to make space and opportunities for others. I agree that Carroll is not even attempting to take on a Shearer type role. But that is what we need as an alternative.
To be honest baz hes not starting games because "he is not doing that" and things will stay that way until he wises up and learns to add brain as well as brawn in his game. As for Rushie,Rush was great with his back to goal(ask Everton just for example),he could/did also play high up the pitch and also scored with his head(not as many as Shearer with his his head),basically Rushie was an all rounder like Shearer,Andy is not like either of the other two(imo)
Was at the game on wednesday V Stoke, carroll did nothing apart from the early shot, was beaten constanly in the air by the Stoke centre halves and whilst I appreciate that Stoke is an intimadating place to play, you would have thought he would have been desperate to stake a claim for a place in the team. He is great in the air, has a bullet of a left foot and is built like a tank, but he is neither fast nor a natural athelete so if he is to suceed he really must develop a real aggresive nature, by that I do not mean reckless tackles, just a real hunger and self belief. I guess it is easy to forget the lad is only 21... Am not negative towards him, really want him to suceed!
Your right baz and we've seen a few times this season where are players have put crosses in and Andy has been outside of the box, like i said he should use nous when nous not muscle is needed, but whatever happens is in his own hands.
Jovetic may play similarly to Suarez at Fiorentina, but back at the club that made him the player he is today, Partizan Belgrade, he played an out and out striker. It was effective - I watched him score a hat trick in the UEFA cup (2007) from that striking position. Though he does like to create his own chances. I'm not sure if that would complement or get in the way of Suarez who does the same. Remember though, we can't write off Carroll, everyone wrote off Dzeko and look what he's done since . I like the look of how he's playing and the stat that Suarez has scored every one of his goals (except against Arsenal) with Andy on the pitch says a lot.
I'm sure the Chelsea players saw Abramovich sign Torres they expected to play with a world class finisher. It just didn't happen unfortunately.
